Does this faux-sectional fit?
Comments (33)I think if I re-work the room this way it might fit better. I'm not sure abut a chaise-sectional because I worry it won't be comfortable to sit on the chaise side and look at the fire: This room is used the most in the fall & winter. I was thinking sectional sofa because it would give space for laying down and sitting. When we have people over, it's nice to have a conversation grouping but when it's just us and the dog a sectional seems like it allows for more lazy lounging. I like the look of this, it just needs to swap which side gets the long versus short piece: So it would be a corner + 1 arm chair piece + 1 loveseat piece. I need to find out if these pieces can fit into the dimensions on the plan (sectional on the floor plan is 6' by 7'8", or 72" x 92"). I like the corner piece on this style because it has a teeny bit of leg room. I don't think it's enough leg room that someone would sit there and hang their legs down, but if you are sitting on either side of the corner you aren't fighting for foot space as much. I think/hope it works out that way, at least....See MoreSmall hall, small table, small problem
Comments (22)WOW Caroline. Lot of future plans. It looks like you have to go through the kitchen from master to get to bathroom? Or am I missing a door some where? HA I like the Aircraft house name too. I sympathize with you on the long narrow living room. I had one that was 26 foot long and less than 12 foot wide as I remember. I had to do it in two areas and even one time I had the dinning room table at the end and it was far from the kitchen but was a lovely view of the river and pool. And we only sat there when we had company. Master bedroom was the same long narrow room because it had been two rooms opened up. I think this is why I love my house and really want to stay here. I think I actually over estimated the SQ FT of it. Removing the three 6 inch thick walls it actually measures 1275 inside and I did not remove the other interior walls. Just out side walls and main wall down the center. It is a great size for one and even when both of us were here it was a good size. Just not as large as I thought. I was counting the total outside measurement. If I had it to do over I might change a coupe of things but it is good as it is. Still not sure if I will enclose half of the front porch. Since I moved my porch furniture to the nice cool shady carport I do not really have reason to enclose the front and I have enough space in the house for me for sure now....See MoreHow can I fit a kitchen/living/dining in this space?
Comments (22)Thank you Mike, that is exactly what I thought. My architect may not be the best to give advice.. I want alternatives and new ideas which perhaps my architect/kitchen designer/myself did not yet think about. Also perhaps since it is a 'job' and right now in Malta all architects/kitchen designers etc are super busy, I can sense that my little kitchen may not be given the deserved attention. If I find a better alternative to what my architect/kitchen designer suggests, I will suggest it to the 'professional' and if it works, we will go ahead. For example.. Is it best to have the frige and cooker on one side and the sink on another? living area is best next to the balcony and kitchen before that or vice versa? In the end it all boils down to taste, yes but I need to make sure that I am using the little space I have as best I can and in the way it would be most practical. Thank you christina and Maria Privat, I will have a look and draw up you idea to see how it looks :)...See MoreKitchen island as only dining? Ideas for small kitchen/living room?
Comments (3)I don’t know if you ever finished your kitchen, but in case you did not, and in case others come across this thread, I thought I would tell what we did. We remodeled our kitchen using a 24 year-old high end kitchen from a kitchen charity reseller (Green Demolitions). It had a huge island that I could fit into our space if we did not have a kitchen table. I have lifelong knee problems and could hardly rise off a regular chair height, so moving to 24” kitchen stools sounded like a solution. We went with the island, with space for four to comfortably sit. It turns out that my knees don’t much like sitting on stools, either. We are a family of two and take our meals in our recliners, anyhow. The issue became how to have people over and sit comfortably. Then I discovered convertible furniture of Italian design! They make coffee tables that rise up on scissor legs to dining height with tops that swivel 90 degrees and open like a book, doubling their size. There are other designs as well, all creating full size dining tables. We found a leather sofa at Macy’s that has a seat height of 20” and we keep our old dining chairs in the basement to bring out when people visit. Our family room is now easily and quickly converted to a dining room with banquette seating. Here is where I got our table. If you live near NYC there are local choices, too. https://expandfurniture.com...See Morechispa
