A subway in a herringbone pattern or soldier pattern in a blue or color you like would be prettier I think. And would be more timeless. I would tire of the look in a few short years using your samples., but that’s me. You’re looking for the backsplash to be the star.

You do know that you don't have to rush the backsplash, right? I didn't decide on a backsplash until 5 months after we moved into our new build. When I finally found the tile, my builder sent the tile guy back to our house to finish the job.

You need to clear all your counters to try to get a good view of how the tile pattern will look with the veins/pattern of the counters.

I agree with @chispa - settle in, enjoy your gorgeous new kitchen, and the let right BS bubble after you have spent time in the room, seen how the light changes during the day etc..

What I see of your counter I like too much to have it upstaged by your backsplash.

Those choices may rely too much on pattern and busy lines vs a simpler style in a soft but real color.

I agree those are too busy for your counters. I love your counters (we are doing southport so kind of similar). Something simple like a subway tile would probably work best, but in a different size and not typical "subway tile" size. I'm liking the 2.5x12 tiles or even the 4x4 or 5x5.

It is kind of hard to tell from your photo, but make sure your range is raised up above the counter. Most specs say even with or above counter is ok, but there was a post recently where her cambria counters were scorched right next to the range due to them being even with the range.

Agree that your choices are way too busy. If I were you I would wait until you are finished, have cleaned up everything and have your pulls installed, walls painted and finishing touches done. No one ever died because the back splash wasn't done when kitchen construction completed.

Agree with everyone else that these tiles do not add beauty to your kitchen. Your countertop choice is lovely and with all that movement it needs to be the star. Adding those tiles would just be a distraction. You could add some color with a blue subway tile that has some character without introducing several different colors and patterns into the mix. Take your time to decide.

Just agreeing with others that the tile is too busy, and the chevron pattern won't work. Better ways to liven up your kitchen - and easier to switch out than a backsplash if you tire of them - are counter stools in a bright color like the bright blue of that tile, plus counter accessories like a utensil crock in a bright color. A bowl on the island with fruit. Also your cabinet pulls can be a polished finish to brighten things up.

My advice is to keep it simple!

Keep looking, and in the meantime, why not just paint the backsplash areas in a good quality, washable paint, in a soft color that you love? It will be easy to tile over the paint once you find the right one. That will also allow you to try out a color, and is easily changed if you don't like or tire of it.

I have never tiled mine and after 9 years the paint is still in excellent condition, gets a wipe down behind the stove with dish detergent and a sponge at least weekly (when I wipe the hood).

Beautiful kitchen! You have a lot of choices as far as backsplashes are concerned, but I wouldn't use those mosaics. They are very busy and not that attractive. In addition, you can wait to install the backsplash--your kitchen is certainly functional without one. I waited almost a year to decide on and install the b/s.

When you say that your husband dislikes "subway" tile, what exactly do you mean? Does he dislike ANY rectangular tile? Classic subway tiles are flat, white 3 x 6 tiles, but not all rectangular tiles are flat, white and 3 x 6. You can get rectangular tiles in many sizes (2 x 6, 2 x 4, 2 x 8, 2 x 12, 4 x 8, etc.) and a wide variety of colors. They can be matte, glossy, crackled, undulating, and any combination thereof.

But if the answer is yes, he does not want any rectangular tiles, you can use squares, arabesques, fishtail, star, cross, etc. in any color you can imagine. Check out Fireclay tile, Heath tile, Encore ceramics, Walker Zanger, Waterworks, and many others.
