Newly planted dormant trees can take a while to get going, especially if planted late in the season. Can you show us a picture of the buds? And if you rub a bud between your fingers does it crumble or is it soft and green inside?

its going down to high 30s tonight for me.. west of detroit ...and i suspect you are north of us..

soil temps are root depth are the key to spring flush ... established plants get moving regardless.. but disturbed soil.. that you wet on transplant.. can stay colder later..

give it a few more weeks..

We have had 3 of 4 nights near freeze and at freezing since planting, and it has been coolish. I am a little south of you Ken, in Kingsville near Leamington and Harrow.

No buds, just prebud spots on the stick, so nothing to test. This is another reason why it looks unpromising.....

But could you just show us a picture? I'm not sure what you mean by a pre bud spot. Could they be dormant buds? If it was planted only a month ago, and was alive when planted, it would have had buds and they can hardly have disappeared in such a short time.

I am away from the property for a while, so no pics. Dormant buds, I see nothing resembling buds though, just those slightly raised divisions along the stick, whatever they are called..... a bud is usually obvious.

Did the tree have a good plentiful root system or a somewhat hacked off amputated one? If the latter it'll take longer to break dormancy.
