Wild roses survived the firestorm

When the firestorm burned down an entire forest and all of the houses along 5 miles of road in one night in Sept of 2021, everything was gone - buildings, all of the plants - only the huge mostly dead pines were there, many of which immediately fell, blocking the road.


We went up there in 2021, and also in 2022. Lots of plants were sprouting all over. I looked and looked for the 2 little stands of native species roses which had been on either side of the entrance to the driveway. Nothing.


Ha! We went again this past weekend, and low and behold, the roses bushes which had been right next (within a few inches) of the paved 2 lane road had re-sprouted, and were setting buds! The other bushes which had been further in to the property were no where to be seen. My theory is that the soil would have been a bit cooler where it was touching the road, as the road of course did not burn. So happy to see those little rose bushes - here is a pic of one of them I took 2 days ago:
