Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

Hi! We are remodeling our kitchen- need island lighting ideas

We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel/expansion. Our new island is going to be 120 inches in length x 44 inches wide and will be wired for 3 pendant lights. I've tried to look at guidance regarding pendant sizing and spacing, but there seems to be conflicting info. What pendant size would look best if there will be 3 equally spaced lights? And any recommendations on pendant style with the goal of not completely blocking the site lines? In terms of paint, most of the cabinetry will be white, but the island will be a grey/brown color. The ceiling height in the kitchen is 8 feet, and there will be one large window over the sink (side A). Thank you!

I would need a lot more info as to your style and IMO sight lines are rarely an issue with even a hood it is more in your mind that actual. You have the electrical already there so IMO wait untile the cabinets are in then choose the pendants . What do you have for overall lighting ?I sure hope all those base cabinets are drawers.

Looks like you're going with Shaker cabinets, but are you going more traditional or transitional?

In any event, I wouldn't go any larger than 10" in diameter if you're doing 3 pendants. Here are a couple of inspiration photos:

Thanks for the idea. It is an interesting take. I didn't think of moving it completely to that side of the room. It is indeed a lot more work, but maybe water pipes & drain & gas wouldn't be a big issue (they go under the house). However there is no (simple) way for getting a vent pipe out and I reeeaaaly want a strong hood with external ventilation and not one with filters. I cannot go through the wall because behind it it's the neighbors garage, I cannot go up because of the top floor and cannot really go outside where the porch is because of the newly installed glass roof of the terrace. Yeah, I have a separate pantry, the "washroom" is actually mostly a pantry. That's also where I store rarely used pots and the like, so that's why I can live without top cabinets. There is also an advantage of having the kitchen where it was meant to be, it is closer to the pantry. But I cannot seem to find a good design that fits there and fulfills the need of a breakfast eating place (like an island) The scale is not really off I think, I really have a 2.5m (8.2 feet) long dining table. And I was thinking of an island of 4x60 cm = 240 cm = 7.9 feet so 4 people can sit comfortably. But it is true, such a big island might not fit. And you gave me an idea with one seat on the side. Maybe it could even be 2 and 2....

I would just do a small white subway tile and let the counter tops stand out. I would remove that lowered corner cabinet you have sitting on the counter top, that does not look good and is dating an obviously new kitchen. And then you need to decorate the counter tops including the island (and not with paper towel holders) to help break up all of that white.

Perhaps a gray/green such as BM healing aloe or quiet moments? The BM strip is #110. One of the darker shades on that strip might also work since you have so little wall space. What is the color in your hall and living room? Maybe you could continue that into the kitchen.

Here's a suggestion. It hinges on ditching the side porch. Right now your public rooms (kitchen, living) and your private rooms (bedrooms, bathrooms) are all jumbled up. It's better to have public all together on one side of a small home and private on the other. To achieve this, I drew your kiddo's room + the front bathroom as a master suite. I'm hopeful that closing up the existing doorway and opening a new one across from the vanity is an affordable project. Another bummer about your existing layout is the disconnect between your living spaces including your back yard. To remedy this, I put the kitchen where your master bedroom is. It would be so nice to have one larger, open living space that peeks to the backyard. It's hard to tell if it's feasible, but I thought that by closing off the master bedroom door you could create a closet for a stackable washer/dryer outside the bathroom. I'd enjoy working this out on graph paper if you have a chance to measure your rooms. Yours is one of my favorite kinds of . projects!

Thank you!! I actually thought that 10 inches may be too small, but this is good to hear.
One website said to go with the width of the island (44) - 12 to determine max diameter of pendant. That would imply 32 inches!
And our house is northwest/lodge style- we want to modernize it, but we can’t make it TOO modern or it won’t go with the rest of the interior.

Yes, doing all drawers on the island- essentially all drawers on all of the lowers. I find them much more functional.
