Yes, it is a hebe, possibly 'Paula', although there are many cultivars with a similar appearance. All hebes have some degree of toxicity (as do the vast majority of plants) but it would not be one I'd worry about. But then no dog I have ever owned has grazed on any outdoor plants other than some grass and I grow a huge number of quite toxic plants if dogs were to bother to eat them..........they don't!! Once they are out of the puppy stage, I think they just know better.

I agree that it looks like Hydrangea macrophylla. But have no idea why they selected that for a zone 5 garden!! Unless it has winter protection, it is never going to bloom. And considering the difficulty most have with getting the remontant or reblooming (new growth) types to actually produce flowers, even those are not very good choices for a colder zone without protection!! It also looks like it is in full sun. Does it have inground irrigation? ETA: macs can be cut back to the ground and they will regrow quite easily. You will just miss any flowers for a season, even if you were to provide winter protection.

Four for the Adro - they're an interesting group of plants, and you'd be well on your way to thinking that they're a jade (Crassula ovata), but they're actually a cousin to them, both Crassula and Adromischus in the Crassula Family.

im not buying plantaginea no matter how deep the shade ... its still tends toward apple green.. and the leaves dont stand upright like that .. but.. as always.. i could be wrong ... a 6 inch pure white very fragrant flower in august would prove me wrong .... how old is the fence.. im wondering if it was part of the one on teh other side.. and a poor job was done digging it out to install the fence????? some hosta are stoloniferous .... move on underground runners.. but this isnt one of them ... its a way old oldie ... but there are lots of plain old green ones ... it could even be a rogue seedling ... on this one.. not much definitive to go on.. to venture anything but a pure guess ... ken
