Hi there! I've dabbled in gardening in the past and have really just gotten deeply into it in the past year. Reading through these forums have been so helpful, thank you!

I planted this clematis 5-6 years ago (and didn't note the species or cultivar) and am a bit confused about which group it fits into (both pruning group + the more extensive 12 types).

The blooms look like an early or late large-flowered; however it blooms only on new growth (which indicates late)...but starts in early May (i.e., mid-spring, which would indicate early). Usually after it flowers, the whole plant just kind of calls it a day for the year and it looks pretty sad. Unsure whether that is due to my mismanagement or just the habit of the type.

Any advice on either what group it falls into or (ultimately) how and when I should be pruning?
