I am actually putting a bathroom in the basement first, before I remodel the two second-floor baths which both need to be remodeled and will both need to be done simultaneously since they share a wall and that wall is moving. We lived through a kitchen remodel that left us without one for 4-1/2 years :(. By having a full bath elsewhere I hope to not have to make any finishes decisions based on timing...we'll see.

In my Kohler cast iron shower pan, I use something called R.O.G.3 Its a spray. I can't remember how I came across it. Supposedly it is recommended by Kohler. It works well. I wash my light gray shower pan about once every 3 months. I am the only one using it and I don't go barefoot. So it stays very clean. I could wash it more often, but I can hardly tell the difference. I clean the walls about once or twice per year, because I wipe the entire shower down after every shower with a microfiber auto detailing towel that I got at The Rag Company. Wiping down everything prevents any build up of soap and keeps all areas from getting moldy. I turn my fan on, and run about 30 minutes, when I start my shower and have never had any mold issues in the bathroom. Nothing steams up. the towels I use for drying are: edgeless-avalanche-20-x-40-super-plush-drying-microfiber-towel I hang it over my glass shower door and it dries beautifully. When I wash the microfiber, I wash on hot water with only other microfiber products. You don't want to wash microfiber with cotton, etc, because the lint from these other fibers are believed to "clog" the grabbing capacity of the microfiber. I used a squeegee for a few months and hated the process. A towel is SO MUCH easier IMO.

Just had a 66x32 cast iron bellwether installed. Price was high due to the size plus extra install costs. But worth it (to me). Love the feel of cast iron under foot and easy to clean. Plus I couldn't find a tub I liked the style of as much as the bellwether. (It was replacing a pink tub that I painted white many years ago, which I do not recommend because the paint does not hold up well.) If only I had had a 60" alcove, things would have been a lot cheaper, even for cast iron. Also, there was still a fairly long lead time for the bellwether, even though the fire at the kohler foundry was awhile back. We were warned and I was willing to wait.

What a fantastic tub! I just recently re-tiled our bathtub surround for our midcentury blue bathtub. I too wanted to keep the tub. I ended up using 10x14 white tiles stacked, and did a custom mosaic accent of ceramic petal tiles in matching blue and white (I thought about using NOS or reproduction 4x4 blue tiles, but in the end decided I didn't want an exact reproduction of a mid-century bath surround). I decided against glass accent tiles because, while there are many light blue glass tile options, I thought they were too modern for the old tub and instead of making the tub stand out, just made it look, well, old! I decided ceramic was the right 'look' with the old tub. I absolutely love that green tub- I'm sure it will look amazing. If the floors are light beige, you might try to either find a field tile that is the same light beige, or make sure there is light beige somewhere in your accent tiles, otherwise the contrast between the brand new white tile surround and the beige floors may look disjointed.
