Comments (14)I get it, you wanted a more crisp bright feel. One option is to make KD take the cabinets back and replace them with what you really wanted, and proceed with your original plan. Otherwise, it is fixable. The colors are relative to each other. There is no pure white. The cabinets only look dingy to your eye because they are next to the white trim, which is a white whiter than they are (and next to the stark awful drywall compound, as Val said). If you put an even creamier white next to the cabinets, THEY might very well look very white and crisp in comparison. So, assuming that you did make a mistake and the trim is too bright and is making them look dirty (which may be the case), you will need to re-paint the trim, and select a different blue for the wall. I do think the blue is too pastel now for the cabinets, it needs to be brought down some. How does the granite and backsplash go? Don't you worry, it is going to look beautiful. When we were having ours re-done and custom painted, I spent a whole afternoon crying because the color they promised was not the color that went on. Comments (46)You sounded like me when I came home yesterday to find my 6x24 plank wood-look tile had been installed in the bathroom... in the wrong direction. It was just not what I had envisioned or wanted, and I was upset, but no way was I making him take it out. I had gotten it very cheap, job is running behind and I want to be done. Plus, my mistake for not telling the tiler which way. I had just ASSumed it was obvious it should go the other way. Well, not obvious to the tiler (though I wondered why he didn't ask, when there's a 50/50 no turning back issue like that)... but still, he didn't do anything wrong, and even my husband said he liked it the "wrong" way. Still isn't what I wanted, but the tile is gorgeous, and the effect of the color is still the same and I love it, even if I have to accept it as different from my vision. Comments (9)Where do you live? France is a big place. And does it snow in your area? Here is some general info on lawns. Ignore your neighbor. He's trying to intimidate you and set you up to fail. Plant new seed only in the fall. Start in the early fall. That might be August or it might be September depending on where you live. You seem to have done it pretty well - perhaps by accident. Not rototilling was excellent. Rototilling is a big mistake that a lot of new gardeners make. See if you can rent a roller. You only need it once the first time you seed a big yard. After that, for annual overseeding, you can simply walk on the new seed to press it down onto the soil. Water new very lightly 3x per day, every day, until you get 80% germination. For the shade grass you planted that would be 3 weeks. If you have shade type grass, I'm assuming it's a fescue. Fescue should be mulch mowed at the mower's highest setting most of the time. If it gets hot in the summer, then mow every other week. The idea is to develop deeper roots to get water from deeper places in the soil. Fertilize for the first time on Fête du huitième mai or Jour de la Victoire 45 (same date different name). Fertilize again on Assomption and for the last time on or about Jour d'armistice. With the new lawn skip Jour d'armistice for this year. National holidays are easier to remember than specific dates. If you want to use organic fertilizer, you can do that any time including now. The application rate for organics is almost always 7 kg per 100 square meters. I like to use alfalfa pellets (lapin chow) as a fertilizer. Get them from a local feed store in 20-kilo bags. They really work. Watering: Deep and infrequent is the mantra for watering. This is for all turf grass all over the place. Deep means 3 cm all at one time. Put some cat food or tuna cans around the yard, and time how long it takes your sprinkler(s) to fill all the cans. Memorize that time. That will be the time you water from now on. My hose, sprinkler and water pressure takes 8 full hours to fill the cans. Your time will likely be less. I like gentle watering. As for watering frequency, that depends on the daytime air temperature. With temps from 33-38 deep water once per week. With temps from 25-32 deep water once every 2 weeks. With temps from 21-24 deep water once every 3 weeks. With temps below 21, deep water once a month. Note that you have to keep up with quickly changing temps in the spring and fall. In the USA this deep and infrequent schedule works in Phoenix and in Vermont (for Oz think Hobart to Darwin including Alice Springs), so it should work for you. The reason for deep and infrequent is to grow deeper, more drought resistant roots and to allow the soil to dry completely at the surface for several days before watering again. If it rains, reset your calendar to account for the rainfall. These are in reverse order of importance. Watering is key to getting a good lawn with the fewest problems. I think those kind of pullouts are better than they would be for spices, because you do not have the issues of bottles jostling and falling over, or the need to squat and peer to see the labels. Having said that, I still prefer shallow drawers for cooking utensils similar to what @cpartist posted above. I have three drawers for different purposes. One is the top drawer directly next to the range, and that drawer stack is just 15" wide. That top drawer has the cooking utensils I use constantly such as spatulas, wooden spoon and wooden spatula, can opener, butcher shears, and tongs. The drawer just underneath it has my knife insert. Oh, I do love that knife drawer insert. I like it so much better than a bulky knife block on the counter. Then separately I have a wide shallow drawer for my utensil and gadget addiction, but they are things I do not use so often - whisks, baster, meat thermometer, spider, lemon juicer, onion goggles (yes, that is what I said), offset spatulas for cake frosting, dough scraper, potato masher, and more. I opted not to get the dividers that cpartist has in her drawers. My cooking utensils/gadgets are tossed in willy-nilly. If you do not have an addiction to those utensils/gadgets like I do, you won't even need that third drawer haha. Here is a pic of a knife drawer insert similar to mine.
