closet into bar area
Comments (0)I am commandeering a small shallow closet in a room that will become the library and converting it to a bar area with a wine cooler, shelves, lighting, coffee machine, alcohol, stem wear and the fancy coffe cups etc. I have seen several that are mirror backed- it's a great look... but how does one install glass shelves then? Sorry this might be such a stupid question. I need help with the steps so I don't drive my husband crazy with a poor plan. It's wired for light and has outlets but other than that it's just a one shelf closet right now....See MoreFinally getting ready to do kitchen Boxerpups and everyone
Comments (4)OK - so you're pulling off that shorter counter thing and putting on an entire new top that will extend out PLUS adding on cabinetry to the back where that little short piece is now for more storage, correct? I think concealed storage is great under a seated bar area. But personally, I'm not for open shelving at this location (especially with kids sitting here...heck, even with adults here). Shelves are prime foot resting locations. You'll be dealing with dirt, germs, kicked baskets and footprints constantly. You won't think it will happen but it will. When one is sitting at a counter height barstool, the natural instinct is to look for a comfortable level to rest the feet. It may be on a spot on the stool itself but the more natural spot will be right on those cute little shelves....See MoreShould we use this wall for coffee/bar area?
Comments (5)Yes I think that is our plan is to use it for addtl beverages as we got a cabinet depth fridge. we are used to a full size + a garage fridge in our primary home, so we thought an extra little fridge would be handy with all the cold drinks that we will need for the beach,etc.. And then we could put coffee creamer in it and put the coffee pot on the counter and fill it at the prep sink. But just one more thing to figure out last minute... figure if we have to purchase either a hutch or 2 cabinets (ikea).. it wouldn't cost much more to have part of the kitchen there if it made sense. Thx!...See MorePainted judges paneling, block paneling living room before and after
Comments (5)It was a lot of work. I prepped by lightly sanding and cleaning with denatured alcohol and then priming with shellac primer. I quickly realized it would need caulk and spraying of the paint for a great finish, so I hired a painter. He came out right away and caulked and sprayed 2 coats (and cleaned up well) for $350. The room is 18x27 with 10’ or11’ walls, so I thought it was a great deal. I prepped for the stain by lightly sanding and cleaning with denatured alcohol. It took 2 coats of gel stain (with drying 72 hours after each) plus 3 coats of clear topcoat with light sanding and wiping between each topcoat. It took about 3 weeks total while working only weekends and evenings. I know now lots of people are against painting beautiful wood paneling, but I really didn’t like the orange-tint of the wood and it really didn’t go with the floors or any of my furniture. I waited months to see if my opinion would change and did a ton of research before biting the bullet. It was the most economical solution that I would also be happy with. This isn’t our forever home or our dream home, but it’s perfect for us for right now....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
