how to balance an asymmetrical house exterior?
Comments (9)absolutely do a porch and portico. it will completely change the look. you could actually make that house look adorable. but an easy solution is to get a double door installed to eat up the right space. (hopefully the interior will allow this. Here's how it would look with a portico (which is also something it needs) Here's how the other house looks. what a diff a portico, paint, some columns and hardscape does for a house, yes? and I love these double arched doors. your house is so square and rectangle, that a little soft edges w/the doors and the rounded portico, really take off some of the hard edges. If you buy that house, I'd spend the money and make the exterior look exactly like this one^ this house also look like yours. this one is nice too w/the copper roof portico. but image if the porch went out under both windows. And since I'm spending your money, when you redo your roof, have a few dormers added: this is beautiful. I'm telling you, that house could be adorable if you did some modifications. almost like the first one. I did a little photoshop on yours using the above pic as the modifications: again, imagine if you carried the brick porch over to the shorter side, or to both sides. similar to yours. notice the dormers, the portico w/pediment, brick porch/steps and the door w/sidelites. you could always keep your single door but do a right side-lite to help eat up that space....See MoreExterior- how to balance trim around garage and windows

Comments (8)It's lovely, so much lighter and brighter. I like how you added more windows, even to the garage doors. Homes of that age often have small windows, and not many. It looks welcoming now!...See MoreVotes on how to update the exterior of our new home?
Comments (14)That is a beautiful, classic house. I also like the current color but a more blue-ish green, a gray-ish blue, a buckskin tan, and even dark red are all traditional & classic colors for that style. The addition does need to match. Are you sure that you want a black roof? Black really does increase heat absorption in the summer but doesn't seem to help much in winter. I really noticed the difference after I changed from black to weathered wood, which would look nice on your house and goes with many siding colors ( a brownish gray version - other brands might be more grayish-brown)....See Moreptreckel
