IKEA Farmhouse Sink- Pics & Opinions please!
Comments (51)My neighbor and I both have the single and both have been installed for about 7 years, both as overmount(drop-in) and both installed by two different people in two different ways. My neighbor has a garbage disposal and is installed with undermounted wood supports in standard, framed cabinets. We have no garage disposal and are installed in the older style ikea cabinets with the ikea metal supports. My neighbor drilled out the other two holes (total of three) for sink accessories, we just used the original single hole. Barkeepers friend is your friend for stains. Make a paste in the sink, lightly scrub all over, leave it for a while - anywhere from a few minutes to overnight and rinse away for a blinding white sink. I only do this about 3-6 months. I watched my neighbors' pet over the holidays and cleaned their kitchen for a surprise gift and some physical therapy for me. Their sink became shiney white with the same treatment. We have a few small chips, no cracks. My neighbor has no cracks and quite a lot of chips. I would say my neighbor is more a "normal user" with kids and we're a freshly elderly couple. Both of us have ikea wood counters with issues around the sink - even thought the counters are finished in two different ways and use different sealants. We have issues with a splashy faucet that they don't have but both seem to have issues with water piling up at the mounting....See MoreFinal attempt at farmhouse plan...lots of pics :)
Comments (22)Lavender First I forgot to answer the snow question. We got six to 8 inches on top of what we had. Not a lot of melting going on as last week we were very cold at 6 degrees to maybe 16 for the high. Snowed a few inches today but we are cleared out at the house so all is well.Joe just bought this Blade for the side by side and can plow us out in less than half an hour and we have lots of driveway.OH and you can see some of the snow but this is before last storm. There is lots more now.We usually end up with three to four foot on the ground. Just getting started. Yes we did get the porch. Love it. It is only 8 foot wide and to any one I would suggest 10 foot wide for porch a better size. but 8 foot works. Also the porch faces the street so we enter directly into what is supposed to be the dinning room. The living room door goes out to what we call the court yard. We added 3 stretches. Two foot across master bedroom end and two foot across in living room kitchen end and 16 inches in the middle across the two bedrooms. OH wah your link will not load right now.Said try later. I really like the large master bath and you will enjoy your large hall bath. We had the option to put door between kitchen and laundry and almost wish I had done that. And we can later. A pretty French door would be wonderful. This would have made it possible to include our hall bath with laundry room and make it feel larger too. Still working on that in my brain. With just us I can leave that bath/laundry room door open and this keeps from steaming up the bath when I shower in there ,which I do some times when we both need to get ready in a hurry. Course then I have to keep a curtain on the laundry room door to outside for privacy. We really are comfortable in this house.I will keep checking in on your link. I even tried the Marlett website and it seems to be down. Our last MFH was a Marlette. They are very nice. Comments (17)just wanted to commiserate with you on the plumbing problems. We have an old house were the plumbing was added later. They dug under one end of the house about 10x10 with an exterior entrance, and all the plumbing was put on that corner. We wanted to put in a bathroom closer to the bedrooms and move the kitchen, so we had to run the pipes under what would be the new bathroom floor. Kitchen sink had to be installed on the same wall as the bathroom sink, with the pipes and drain/venting going through the wall into the bathroom cabinet, then down into the floor. As it was, the distance was almost too long for the drop and to still be able to hook up to the outgoing line. That would have required a lift pump in the cellar, not something we wanted to consider. This is the bathroom side of the wall. If we ever have problems, our cheapest solution will be to hand dig a trench under the bathroom to access the pipes. Hope that never happens. I don't think we would have room for a garbage disposal either, as the drain goes into the wall and then down. Since we have a septic system, doing without a disposal was not a hard choice....See MoreNew "farmhouse" - help with color of garage/barn
Comments (39)Lori- After hearing about your 1600 foot driveway, DH is feeling more confident about the mere 800-ish feet we have to deal with! Slope up to house will be a challenge so we may try to cement a bit close to house. Clearly more powerful lawn equipment is in our future. I asked for a brush hog for my birthday but with nowhere to store it, that and my planned walking/snowshoe trails are going to have to wait a while. Divine- for our last house I basically cobbled together what I liked from various house plans then had an inexpensive draftsman put it into a workable construction plan. We had a few little hiccups during the build, but it was a great way to get what we wanted without having to pay an architect....See MoreHU-766555155
