Waterproof roofing under rooftop deck?

I’m building a Trex deck on top of a flat roof (has a very slight pitch to shed water. Wood sleepers will be embedded in mud (to add a bit more pitch) over wire lath which has been stapled to plywood roof deck. Looking for recommendations for a suitable waterproof membrane system to apply over this prior to attaching Trex deck boards to sleepers. Thank you

I don't follow your description. I only know of 3 muds: the dirt kind, the joint compound kind, and the cucumber face kind, all of which are wrong for this use.

A flat roof should have it's own type of roof system (EPDM, TPO, etc) that sheds water independent of the roof deck Then you protect the surface with another layer or slip sheet (some manufacturers have accessory products for protection) under the sleepers for your floating deck. Much better than having the deck attached to the structure and having to sleeve or flash each post or sleeper attachment.

I've worked with copper in the past so I would be the installer. The cost to have a sheet metal shop manufacture the 6 or so pieces is about the same cost as hiring a roofer to install torch down. The difference is that I'm doing the installation of the copper and I'm about as slow at working with metal as they come. A carpenter friend who does high-end remodels in the hills up and down Silicon Valley said he's seen copper under decks quite a few times. I just haven't found anyone who has actually installed one. Roof pan is probably an inaccurate description as there is no drain. It all drains off the edge of the roof/decking into a gutter at 1/4"/ft. I would attempt to have all my folded and soldered seams in the downhill position. A presumed advantage to metal is that if a leak appears, it can feasibly be fixed from the underside, if it can be found. My dad suggested building a fiberglass pan, like a boat hull or giant shower pan. It could be tough to install because resin is so messy but might just work. I'm still on the fence. I'll post if I decide to be a guinea pig on this project.

I see lots of concrete decks in my area and very few of them are 4" think and more like 2-1/2" and they crack...even at 4" you will get cracks. I re-did my decks on my previous home and laid porcelain tile on them and the decks looked great. You have to use the correct additive in the thinset and grout and of course you need the correct subfloor. I used regular concrete sealer on my tile decks and it looked good and really wasn't too slippery.

Standing water is going to cause problems. To solve your problem, you will need to provide the water a place to go. That means the best solution is to slant the rain water handling surface away from the house and hang a gutter along the outside edge, with a down spout to direct the water away from the area.. What that contractor did might protect the finished ceiling below. But, as you are finding, at the expense of the decking above. Get rid of the trees that is the only solution to the needles dropping . As for the decking some pics would be nice but how is this being waterproofed first and foremost then the pretty flooring is chosen IMO get a good leaf blower if you keep the trees and it honestly will not matter how wide the drainage is it will still collect the needles . There are covers for the eavestroughs to keep leaves out but the needles will find there way in so will need some work at least once a year.

Mortar? Still doesn't make sense. Mortar on sheathing, then a roof membrane on that, with sleepers either under or over the membrane (can't interpret) from what I read.

You cut sleepers with the slope of the roof to allow the floating deck to be level, you don't shim them with mortar.

Deck mud is to be used over solid concrete.
If you are starting with a flat plywood deck, you need to install an EPDM rubber roof over sloped insulation board. As noted above, the deck is built with sleepers with sloped bottoms and sits (floats) on top of the rubber roof. It is not attached at all through the rubber roof because holes in the rubber roof will leak.

There are specific systems designed for this, unfortunately I don't remember the name from the trade show. Use that only please, no DIY inventivness.
