granite dust, best way to clean cabinets
Comments (5)Geez! I'm sorry to hear they did that; I'd have thought they'd have had the consideration and professionalism to do exactly what you thought would happen. I'm no granite expert, but how about your soft brush idea combined with a shop vac or regular vac hose right below your brush. You might be able to use a large soft new paintbrush. I'd fear if you used the brush attachment of the vac it might drag grit across the surface of your cabinets and scratch them. With you wielding the brush, you can tap it off between sweeps. Good luck!...See MoreBest Kitchen Layout for limited space and kid in wheelchair
Comments (19)Google kitchen design for wheel chairs. There is tons of info. Your son will soon be in a larger wheelchair and want to be able to do things on his own so this design needs some very serious thought. 60” is the requirement for spacing where you need walkways islands don’t usually work well unless you have a huge space....See Morequestion about pantry - best way to store small appliances
Comments (23)Do you use your Instant Pot every day? Weekly? Other? Do you have to have all the pantry cabinets? Have you considered, instead, making that whole row base + uppers (no uppers in front of the window, of course)? If you did, you could make a Snack/Appliance Center where you put your Instant Pot, toaster oven, coffeemaker, and what ever other small appliances you want to use without moving them. They could be on the now much longer counter with several outlets to accommodate them all? (Personally, I wouldn't use the mixer there as it's usually part of a much larger baking effort and I prefer to have it where I work.) The uppers could be used for food storage as well as the base cabs. If you need more pantry storage, maybe reduce the seating at the island and, instead, have a row of shallow base cabinets that would provide more storage. You show what appear to be at least 4 stools; I cannot tell, but be sure you don't have two stools sharing the same corner since two people's legs cannot share the same space. (I see that mistake a lot here, so I thought I'd mention it. I assume you also have the minimum recommended 15" of clear leg/knee overhang space as well & are not skimping on the overhang, especially on an aisle with a lot of traffic.)...See MoreExtension Layout Ideas
Comments (7)How small is small? I cannot see any dimensions on your plan. Without them I can't begin to partition for closets. I can guess from what you said that your kitchen is L-shaped. Perhaps you use the other half of this space for dining. There is too much I don't know. Consider built in cabinets on the wall opposite the kitchen. You could keep all your dishes and serveware there, freeing up space in the kitchen for pots and pans. Look for pull out storage that fits in hard to get to corner space. Over the door hangers can add space for food wraps, baking pans or pot lids. Add tiered spice racks to the inside of doors. Finally, a 3-tiered rolling cart can add both storage and work space to a small kitchen. The big item in your wish list is a stackable washer/dryer. Ideally, you would add a washer/dryer closet as close as possible to the current water supply. It's easier to place them farther away if you have basement or crawlspace access. It's best to have a dryer on an exterior wall so it can vent freely. The farther a vent pipe has to travel the less force the air has at the exhaust. Turns also inhibit air flow, and the result is a build up of lint in the pipe and at the exhaust port. Moreover, you need to know the amount of space a washer/dryer will take up. There is No Standard Size; stacked washer/dryer units can be as small as 24x24 inches or as large as 34x28. Plus you have to add a minimum of 6" behind for water connection and drainage (so 40x28). Height is also an issue. Standard doors are 78 inches tall with varying widths. Make sure a washer/dryer unit will fit into a particular closet. Note that small washers will not hold as much fabric, so you could end up taking large, thick blankets to a laundry or cleaners. I suggest you visit a store to see what 3.5 cubic feet washing space looks like....See MoreHannah Mitchell
