Well, like I said, I personally would have preferred a shower curtain, but.....my older daughter once fell out of a curtained tub in a hotel when she was younger, and ever since has been afraid of tubs with curtains. The middle one is a little OCD, and can't stand that the curtain might blow in and touch her with its "inherent grunginess". LOL, these kids! The little one hasn't developed any issues yet, but give her time! Teen angst is enough as it is, I'm giving in! Hey, Nancy_J, that looks very promising. Best thing I've seen yet. I really like the Hydroslide door also on that site, but I'm leery of not being able to reach around the fixed panel to turn on water, etc. Guess I could have the moving door on the front end, but then it might feel a little claustrophobic when you take a bath. I'm thinking this one through. For those who are interested, in my further internet travels today I found a bi-fold tub door (though, no one who carries/installs it), and for the surround, OnyxStone, which looks like corian but comes in gloss finishes as well; and Soterra granite, which is thinner than countertop granite and comes in panels. Thanks HB! I went to the Kohler store last week and looked at the sample chips. I like the way it looks, kind of like porcelain. Anyway I ordered it. Crossing my fingers it will look good installed and DH will like it as well (he didn't get to see the sample). Mimipadv, it's funny but white tile is kind of outside my comfort zone! I generally prefer color. But we're going to do white tile, mix of square and subway, with an iridescent glass accent. We fell in love with Saturnia Gold granite, which is black with lots of mica and gold specks, so we wanted to have a simple backdrop that would show off the granite. Good luck with your project!

This is so helpful, everybody! I realize I should have specified that I have a 9' ceiling in the bathroom, so it's taller than either the length (almost 8') or width (almost 7') of the room. That's part of the reason I don't want to run tile all the way up to the ceiling. I think it would look overwhelmingly tall and out of proportion. House Vixen, I'm having trouble seeing what you're describing as running bond – unless you mean in the field tile itself. I do rather like that pattern used with square tiles. (I confess I'm getting a little tired of rectangular subway tile absolutely everywhere, which is not to say there aren't a lot of bathrooms that use it that are both period and gorgeous.) House Vixen, btw I love the baseboard+floor border further set off by red pencil liner in that yellow bath.

neither. certainly not the marble-look. not w/that flooring. I'd do a 4x12 subway in soft white or a darker charcoal color. maybe a darker taupe/tan color that works w/the floor see these first two shower walls? something in this size tile and layout see this busy floor and how the simple stacked white tile just blends into the wall? Same premise w/this one if you wanted to use a darker tile to match that dark floor color this dark charcoal isn't the right tone, but you get the idea. You might be able to do something like these. Try the Portmore from Tilebar, or Cloe from Bedrosians. Everything is so monotone. I'd bring in some wood shelves and some plants to punch it up a bit
