What is ailing my Epiphyllum and zig zag plant?

Recently I traded some plants and received these plants. Both with problems, but hoping that at least new shoots will eventually come from the roots. The epiphyllum German Empress was already kept outside during a recent hot spell, and I suspect some leaves got sun burned, but the leaves that are hanging down look good (pic#2) . I thought that after keeping it indoors for a few weeks the sun burn would eventually heal itself, but part of these leaves seem to dry out instead. Anything I should do ? I am planning to place it outdoors again, now that we are hopefully past our frost dates.

The zig zag plant seems to have several thin very frail stems come out of the soil that are in some places kinked / damaged and probably not sustaining the thicker leaves well. I tried to cut off a few and propagate the good part of the leaves, but they just rotted away slowly. Thes leaves seem fragile and thin compared to strong sturdy leaves of another zig zag plant I received from a friend.
