The Washing Line Thread
Comments (64)Dear Blogg, On the topical subject of washing lines, I put a brand new one up 30 metres (although I only used about 10 metres) and pegs for about two pounds English moneyquite cheap too!... about three weeks ago anyway since the day I put it up the weather has been atrocious. Up to then it had been sunny for a few weeks and having got the electricity bill..ouch! ...so cut down on the drier we all decided .like teenagers ingest vast amounts of electricity? .to return the issue.since that notable day the washing line has only worked periodically I would say 3 times out of ten at the most... weve even taken it down and changed the polarity!!...with little differenceits colour is by purple the way!!!.... .I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING OF TAKING IT BACK AS BEING FAULTY!... .Furthermore nowhere to be seen on the outer wrapping was any mention or warning of its dislike of unfavourable weather!!!...This could be a case for the Trades and Description Act! the line could be sulking perhaps missing home as its likely to be made in china! .an alternative theory is: Ive had a digital satellite dish put on the wall near to on end of the line and this could be draining energyweve definitely got excellent picture quality on the TV!! oh by the way...day job is being boss of my establishment and hence I am last port of all in the line management structure!!!...I thought I had some management skills but alas this has tested my limitations!!! .would love to hear from anyone who may able to shed further light on the matter or think of any other possible causes or simply have a view on the subject??? who was the first linesman/woman??????...See MoreHow Long Must We Wait To Sell
Comments (17)Jane in NY, after reading your remarks, that is when I decided to make the 12x14 approx garden shed LOOK LIKE it might pass for a real comfortable playhouse OR a little artist studio, sitting away from the house up hill in the corner of the back yard. I misspoke when I said I'd like to turn it into a playhouse, because all I am proposing to do is to stage it where it will have multiple and attractive functions. It is already wired and plumbed, so it is half way there. And the person commenting on the cork, I realize it is not a mainstream flooring material, so we'll do the obvious thing and put in some carpet in a neutral color. The carpet now on the floor in the study/4th bedroom is the same as the carpet on the family room floor, and it is gross beyond words. Plus, it is over 20 years old now and horribly worn. I appreciate the time everyone took to consider this question. Sometimes I get tunnel vision. But each reply is now in the hands of my DH, who will ultimately make the decisions about marketing his house. Having lived in it from the early 60s and raised his three children there, he is naturally quite attached to it, and has customized it a lot. I'm not as familiar with the r/e demands of the New England area, so cannot judge which improvements are considered standard to the area. And you are right, we don't NEED to sell the house, but we are getting too old to keep running back and forth from north to south taking care of two houses. We want to spend more time being newly weds and exploring the country, instead of maintaining houses vacant for half the year....See MoreYour Funniest Buying/Selling a Home Story . . .Tell Us!
Comments (71)When my husband and I were selling our house last year, we went through a string of bad luck. We staged our home and put a lot of stuff in his office (he had his own business). Needless to say the building the office was in burned down and we lost a lot of pictures, but mostly just junk. We finally sold the house only to have the first buyers back out 4 days before the closing, but we were locked into buying our new house. We then put our home back on the market and prayed we would sell it in a newly SLOW market. Anyway we had many potential buyers come back and view the house 3 and 4 times but after 5 weeks still no offer. With the stress of holding 2 mortgages we were desperate. One day when my husband was commuting home from work it just so happened he was sitting next to a realtor. They got to talking about our house and she mentioned to him when ever she needed to get a house sold she would burn sage leaves to ward off evil spirits. That weekend we were holding an open house. Unbeknownst to me, as we were leaving the house my husband ran back in to "get something." He was taking a really long time so I ran in to find out what in the world he was doing. I saw him running through the living room with a smoking piece of aluminum foil and the overwhelming smell of burning herbs which smelled very illegal! I wanted to kill him. At the same time our realtor arrives and was nearly knocked back at the smell. At the time I didn't think it was funny and I was fuming. Needless to say, we got an offer that day, and we closed in 4 weeks. The ironic thing was our buyer was a Drug Enforcement Agent. He must of knew it was sage and not something else....See MoreHow important is a dog-washing station for new house? Recommendations?
Comments (87)A raised human tub makes a great dog bath and helps with the bending over, as well as at least a small deterrant to the (larger) dog exiting the tub prior to at least a decent rrub wth a towel. My groomer had outfitted her shop with this set up. It's also pretty cost effective. My back isn't fond of outting our dogs in the existing people tubs. My current dog shower is too high (it has open space under it for the cat's little box) and if I wash a dog in there. all the wantter runs down my arms - sigh. I've also bathed the dogs in our walk in shower - which - is convenience because the shaking is contained and I can just disrobe and finish the process for myself since I am usually soaked anyway. While at lot of things will work - laundry sinks, etc - you still have to LIFT THE DOG as high as the counter. It's also a challenge to have something to secure the dog in the tub - which is why a commecial grooming tub was the right option for us as it checks all the boxes and even has a pull out ramp to help get larger dogs in there. I suspect we'll use this large tub for more than dogs - I could see it being useful for all sorts of gardening things....See Morecgistaro
