I have not been on this forum, in particular, for awhile The other day I came across a house that is to be demolished The gardens are all overgrown. I dug up a few things, and whomever had the property had spent a great deal of time in that yard What attracted me was how wildly gorgeous the orange honeysuckle vine has grown.Or coral as you have written I did not bring any of the vine with me. as I wasn't sure if it grows from cuttings or needs root. The bulldozer will be there I was told Monday morning. I will get back over and get some cuttingsbut would like to hear from you as to what is best to do.

In most of the US range, honeysuckle is considered a weed. A wonderfully odoriferous weed, but a weed nonetheless because you can't get rid of the durn things! AFAIK, ants and honeysuckle get along just dandy, though in a pot with little else to eat they may turn to the roots. Go outside, knock the ants off the roots and out of the pot and re-pot with all new potting mix. Frankly, though, honeysuckle is common enough that you might just want to start over. (P.S. the flying ants are the drone and queen forms of the little black guys. They take off, mate, and the queens go establish new colonies while the drones die.) Dennis

I found a pink budded honeysuckle that turned white as it opened at what must have been an old home site. (No indication of a house just overgrown bushes here and there and the woods has moved in so lots of trees.) Plan to go and take a picture tomorrow. There was Japanese honeysuckle there as well but it is yellow/white with no pink. Any ideas of what this antique pink to white honeysuckle could be? There were also lots of periwinkle, mountain laurel, pale pink flowering rhododendron, lilac, cross vine, red quince, old white single roses, daffodil greens and lots and lots of poison ivy. The honeysuckle had made a nice flowering vine but didn't seem to be overpowering. Thinking about taking some cuttings.

I have the pink/peach/yellow Lonicera americana. I had to cut it down to the ground last year because it was covered with aphids and powdery mildew. I burned everything, so as not to infect other plants. It's now growing back quite nicely. You can spray with neem oil, Castile soap or fungicidal sprays but research the proper kind. If your honeysuckle shows signs of an infestation I would cut it down and start over. They grow back super fast.
