Eco friendly way to disinfect a bathroom
Comments (11)Most people won't realize how brilliant Flipsit is. I realize Flipsit is meant to be a product you use in your home, but it's a shame public places don't use it on their toilets, too. Even the cleanest public bathroom is cleaned less than once an hour. Some toilet seats are only disinfected a couple of times a day. The toilet seat in your home is probably disinfected only once a week! Why does that matter? Because 99% of antimicrobial sanitizers don't work properly. Even Purell which is used in more public establishments than any other brand has a dirty little secret. Purell and all alcohol-based sanitizers will kill 99.99% of germs, but as soon as the alcohol dries, their protection vanishes. And germs will multiply until the bathroom is cleaned again. With Flipset, you never have the touch the toilet set. So your chances of infection are greatly reduced. It's a shame the US Government Center for Disease Control (CDC) has supported and promoted the use of alcohol-based sanitizers even though they know full well alcohol-based sanitizers only kill germs for the 5-7 seconds the alcohol is wet. Once the alcohol dries, the protection vanishes! Of course, the same is true in your own home if you use an alcohol-based sanitizer on your toilet. That's why Flipsit is such a clever product. It helps protect you against germs where they are sure to lurk. Comments (9)I love the TP holder, how the towels bring all the colors together, and your attention to the small details. I added the TP holder to my own bathroom notes. We are doing a gut in a year or two. I will also be using Swanstone for walls, but also using their ADA floor with the trough drain at the outer edge. I plan to take the wall panels to the ceiling. Is the cost so much more to do so, or did you simply like the more traditional look of lower shower walls? Mine is in an alcove, so I think that makes more of an argument for going all the way up for me, too. Are you loving the wall panels? Is the niche working well for you? I can't wait to get rid of my wire shampoo bottle hanger! I had a Toto with the special glazing inside in my last house. Don't you find that you don't need to use the toilet brush as often? I miss mine. I might steal your idea for the crown molding, too. I really admire your use of ecologically conscious materials. That is harder to do in a bath. Great Job!...See Moresell eco friendly furniture
Comments (1)I am personally skeptical of anyone claiming to be "eco-friendly" I find it really hard to believe that 0.5m^3 of wood, once processed, culled (assuming you do, or do you leave knots and crotch grain in?), finger-jointed, ripped to width, and planed to thickness saves a whole tree! You must be getting really low yield on your trees. Is this the "finger jointed" stuff that not only looks cheap, but falls apart? :-) Oh, and just what is the moisture content of your stock when processed into furniture? Is this also the stuff that's going to shrink and crack due to complete random orientation of wood and growth rings? Have a nice day :-)...See MoreAn Eco-friendly Wood Finish Alternative
Comments (11)I get a little impatient with people who want "all natural," "eco-friendly," and "sustainable." I would challenge most of these people to pass a ninth-grade science test. In most cases I think they are just being duped out of their money. Add to the fact that finishing labels rarely tell the whole truth about the contents. Below is a link and at $30 a quart seems like quite the deal. I have never really understood the fascination, almost cult-like following, of tung oil. It seems to offer no advantages over the much cheaper, faster, easier to use, and less error-prone boiled linseed oil (which is not boiled, another finish label lie). I would challenge anyone to distinguish between the two side by side on the same piece of wood. I did a fabric cleaning job for a lady a few years ago. She didn't want me to use any "chemicals." I'm thinking, that leaves light or vacuum, because everything else, including Di-hydrogen Monoxide (aka water) is a chemical. She was pleased when I pulled out a jar of "Natural Fiber Cleaner." I didn't tell her that "natural" modified "fiber" (it was meant for Haitian cotton) and not "cleaner." The only difference was the pH; it was not as alkaline as the other cleaners. Here is a link that might be useful: one alternative...See MoreGizmo
