One plus of the two swagged fixtures is that the table would be well lit across the entire surface as opposed to just the central portion. An elongated fixture will help with lighting more of the table, but depending on the table length, the ends may still be darker than the middle. So then I guess it's a matter of form vs. function dilemma. Also, if cost is an issue, it could be more economical to swag two smaller fixtures than to buy one elongated chandelier. With the right lights, I think it could be done well, but to each his own. : )

alex9179--you made me laugh:) Yes, the arms are bent out a bit, they seem to be too easy to bend out of place. judymn, do you mean you think I could just get a rectangular rug, put it right against the patio door (plus a plant) and not bother with a table or a sitting area? I do think we need to get chairs for our island...although my kids really don't sit there.

If I were doing it, I would look at the other light fixtures in the same series as the pendant lights. It would be nice to have a unified look. If that did not work out, and I could not match the cylinder glass shapes, then I would at least match the same type of metal, and the same type of glass, even though the shades might have a different shape.

But honestly, the pendants really do not do much for the space and they seem a little off in placement, I would probably opt to put recessed lighting there instead. (might already be there and they just put pendants up over existing can lighting...
