Best garage door openers

Need to replace ours bc they are super old and broken. What brand/type is recommended? We have 1 single garage door and 1 double garage door. We are considering the wi-fi type bc my brother and SIL come to stay at our house every 2 months for medical appointments and we're not always home, so would be convenient to give my brother the wi-fi info so they can easily park in garage. TIA!

We have used Chamberlain, about 200 dollars when we bought it last year at Home Depot. Have installed them in our childrens garages also....really work well.

Our opener is conncected to an app on our phone that allows us to open the door where ever in the world we may be...only had to use that function once, but it was a need to do it right now......great!

Increase the gage of the spring windings when you do replace that spring.

When our insulated double door spring broke, that's what I did.

Replaced ours with a side-mounted shaft-drive one by Lift Master. Very quiet and that is especially nice due to bedrooms above. Also frees space in the center of the garage.

Your definitely on the right track. I repair remotes for a living and I have some experience with garage door openers. As far as the door goes, I'm not too sure but you should definitely go for the Liftmaster 3595 Heavy-Duty Chain Drive. I strongly believe the chain drive is the most durable but it can be a little dangerous if your have little ones around. In my opinion, a belt drive won't give the optimal performance. Problem 1. Have you checked the batteries? I know it's basic but I have to ask. Problem 2. Sometimes the installers use staples that are not insulated on the wiring for the wall control. Make sure these have not cut through the insulation. This can cause intermittent operation. If you live near an air force base there can be other problems but I really haven't an answer for this. I have only heard the frequency used by opener companies belongs to the military and they are taking it back. Problem 3. Make sure the door sensors are pointed directly at one another. There is a small light on each sensor and they both need to be on to work properly. Make sure they are not blinking ever so slightly. I don't think your problems are related but...........

Well, I hope he got in by now, but putting a hole in the door will cost money to repair. If it was me; I would strip a few panels of siding off the garage wall and then cut a hole in the sheeting behind the siding just big enough to crawl thru and open the door. Then the siding could be put back on and there would be no cost involved other than personal labor.... and the prospect of trying to get a panel to match an existing garage door (with fading and such) doesn't sound like any fun.

Overhead Door, is perehaps the most commonly available brand of garage doors and most doors are now aluminum. OD has many designs and prices and are available plain and insulated. The dealer that installs the garage door can also install the opener. One of the better brands of openers is Genie. If you install a double wide insulated door, I would suggest a 3/4 HP opener. The advantage of having the same company install the door and opener is that it gives you better warranty options.

I have nothing bad to say about the residentail lines of either any of the Chamberlain brands or Genie brand.

The comment about upsizing the springs for a torsion door, is flat out wrong (and to an extent for extension springs). The torsion springs are sized for the size and weight of the door, and increasing the recall can lead to problems that are unnecessary. The "gauge" of wire has to do with the number of coils, diameter, and length of the springs.

The garage door professional who installed that door spring had no problem with that replacement.

After 8 years that spring has given me no problems either.

Mine are Liftmasters too. I also have a digital keypad for access.
