Hmmm...If what I am reading here is true then when would a bare root ever climb? When you think of the millions of plants sold as bare root roses we would have yards full of bushes only since none of them have long leaders left on them. It certainly would take a while for the plant to built up to throwing out long canes-the sleep, creep, leap senario as the plant builds the carbs necessary for growth. I would think it makes a great deal of difference if the rose is bred climber or is a climbing sport. Lots of large flowered climbers are sports(not like the large flowered ramblers which are natural climbers) I will have to ask Anne Belovich about this. She grows hundreds of climbers. Mac is so vigorous that I cant see it not reaching for the sky. I always leave as much bush as I can handle when I move a rose and prune back what it abandones as it settles in. Bboy is right that support makes a big difference. You can get a rose to climb sometimes which doesn't normally climb..I have Rosa mundi climbing up a quince tree. I wonder why that is? Update: I did speak to my neighbor about spraying and he did spray roundup down the fence line. I think that in Buff Beauty case that is the culprit. It's more symptomatic of glycophosphate damage. In the case of MAC I have to say that I agree with everyone that it is RRD esp after reading Ann's ebook. I did do the iodine test, but it still stayed orange... Also contacted 2 county ext offices to see if they could help me determine if MAC has RRD , but they said they would have to send a sample off on Monday. Ann - Thank you so much for your help. Fortunately, it isn't in too close of a proximity to my other roses thank goodness. I'll do as you suggested and go around it and try to sever all the roots. I agree that it must have been in the wind which was stopped by the lattice. We had some high winds here a while back and I bet that is what did it. I guess the best thing is to say my final goodbyes and take it down tomorrow morning before the temps start heating up. I am so sorry that many of you have had to experience the heartbreak of losing roses to RRD as well. This mess is awful and hopefully they will find a cure soon.

I haven't priced used Macs but it sounds in the ball park. Doesn't much matter anyway, it's not like you can return it. <lol> I love OSX and you'll find it a little different than Windows but you'll pick up quickly enough (and wonder why Microsoft hasn't put some of these features into Windows). Apple's native browser, Safari, isn't the greatest so you'll want to add Firefox and/or Chrome. OpenOffice is available for OSX if you need an office suite. You're likely maxed out on RAM but if you want to speed things up a bit you might think about replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD). Prices of SSDs have dropped considerably.

Should I be concerned about this? My Onc. Heaven Scent 'Sweet Baby' has always done this: before a new growth is mature, sometimes before it even has a visible PB, it will have its own new growth. Recently my Oncostele MIdnight Miracles 'Masai Red' started doing the same thing. Is this a sign of something wrong? Or just a normal thing no one mentions?
