And a third vote for completely normal in Red Russian. I love this kale. If you leave a few plants to go to seed you will never need to sow it again. To get a new row I cut some old flower stems with the pods on and lay them along newly sown pea rows to keep the cats off the fresh earth. By the time the peas are finished and cut down (NOT pulled) there will be a row of Red Russian seedlings in their place using the nitrogen from the pea roots to get started in life. They just need thinning and there you go.

Billy, my Sago is all yellow..I vowed never to buy another, then Walmart had Sagos in bonsai pots for 9,99, a couple yrs ago, so it followed us home. It did fine, until I placed in the gh this winter..sigh I bought a Cycad, think it's Dioon, on Ebay..came w/2 whole leaves..sheesh. Ended up buying two, potted together. The seller no longer posts pictures of this Cycad..Wonder why..lol..Thankfully, it was inexpensive. They're plugs, so guess I shouldn't have expected much, but I bought plants in plugs from another seller, his plants are 4-5 times larger. None are Cycads. Do you really think it's warm enough to ship? Let's see, how about next Monday..temps are 'supposed' to warm up this wkend.. Also, let me know how I should wrap it. It's been a long time shipping tropicals. Sux yes, trops, no. Any ideas? I fear cuttings will dry during shipping. Should I use moist paper towel? Plastic bag? I have a Donkey's Tail, but no String of Beads..That will be fine, or you don't have to send anything.. Any other cuttings you're interested in while I'm at it? Can you root Christmas Cactus? Or you can jot it down via GW. BTW, as an experiment, last summer I planted my Sago in the garden..it did fantastic. So green..sure doesn't look healthy now..The trunk is firm, so it's not dead, but all leaves yellowed and need pruning. It's my fault though, I forgot to water. :( Toni

You're going to have a great garden with those! But don't rush - you'd hate to lose them. The only sprouts I've got that I really rush into the beds are poppy. Just as soon as they have two real leaves, they go in. They grow on a tap root and if you wait too long you lose too many in the transplanting because they don't like it. Your selection - the first ones I'd get out there are the calendula and snaps. But wait till your last frost date unless you want to roll the dice.

I just root them in water and then pot them up. Several weeks ago, I rooted two large prolifs of 'Margo Reed Indeed' and now they are potted up to take to the Fall Region 3 meeting next weekend. You can also root these in rooting mediums such as vermiculite. Sometimes I have just stuck these in the ground (sometimes you can see roots beginning to form on them before they are cut) beside the mother plant and root them that way. Several times, I've seen proliferations put out a scape and bloom. Now that's unusual!
