I'm about to start on my garage make-over. I intend to paint the walls a beige color, which should look nice and reflect light well. I'll be painting my workbench legs a "hunter green" color, along with the pegboard over it that holds all my tools. I'll be putting a wood-grain formica laminate on the workbench top, and frame the pegboard with quarter-round trim, as well. Kilz makes an excellent double-duty paint, which has the primer mixed in with the paint. I've used it before with good results. It's a little pricier than others, but will save money in the long run, when you stop and consider buying a bucket of primer plus a bucket of paint. My major work will be getting rid of the metal free-standing shelves that I'm currently using, and installing wood cabinets in their place. Hopefully, it won't be that hard to do. Hi Mustangs, I know you're serious! Our garage walls are painted, but they're just white. I live with Felix Unger and so its pretty darn neat. In fact we had a realtor in today and she said "Mrs. Clean lives here" and I said "No, Mr. Clean lives here and lets me live with him in spite of myself". Its hard to see our walls because we have shelves on 3 walls and stuff hanging, rakes, shovels, etc. But I agree that it is where I enter my home every day and so I really look at it and like it to be neat. BTW desertdance, we had a bar set up there when we had a catered "milestone" birthday party in the house a few years ago - only place we could keep people out of the chef's way in the kitchen - that's what prompted Felix Unger to paint it back then. I do wish he had chosen a color - I'd have gone with a light silver/blue I think. Like the sky. We do have a pretty red Mustang in there and I think it would look pretty.

If you're not going to paint all of the walls white, as saypoint mentions, I would do the upper half white and the bottom half grey. This is what our basement laundry room in the prewar apartment building I grew up in had; the top half was maximized for brightness and the bottom half was maximized to conceal scuffs, dings, etc. I believe the shade was the usual "battleship grey" : ) .

my dream garage would be a nice simple medium grey flooring and white walls -- like opaone said, to reflect as much light as possible so I can work. or perhaps this bluish-grey floor: I envy that you get to do this. my garage is a glorified shed. uninsulated, no drywall, and I'm pretty sure it's built out of dust held together by 50 years worth of cobwebs. they're load bearing webs now.
