Does anyone have stained trim anymore?
Comments (18)Here is a sample of our trim. I have enjoyed the look and low maintenance of wood trim for the past 20 years. I'm embarassed to admit, I've only thoroughly washed it a few times, if that, over the past 20 years. My routine has been to vacuum it when dusty looking, and for the most part it has always looked fine. I love the look of painted trim also! We are in the process of putting on a 940 sq ft addition and we plan on painting most of the new woodwork. Wood trim original house and painted in new add on . . . what do you think? Make sense? The addition includes expanding and updating the kitchen. I'm planning on going white trim, hardwood floors, and a combination of wood and painted cabinets. The same for the mudroom/butler's pantry area right off of the kitchen. Lots of beadboard, white subway tiles . . . you probably know the look all too well. Good luck with your decision and post lots of photos. Here is a link that might be useful: Wood Trim...See MoreDoes anyone have pics of painted Island with stained perimeter?
Comments (18)I struggled with this exact same dilema. Most of the two tone kitchens have light perimeter and dark island. The style of my house and surrounding furniture does not really support the look of so much light cabinetry. But I also didn't want an all dark cabinet kitchen. I began searching desperately for pictures in magazines and as I looked I began to find a few and they were beautiful! Then Sharon1 posted pictures of her kitchen and she had the exact same color scheme I had just ordered and I thought it was gorgeous! It was a huge load off my back. My perimeter is a dark stain rustic beech and my island is a creamy glaze. I haven't picked countertops yet - I don't know what I want to do yet. I think the reason you see my light perimeters is that it keeps the kitchen light and airy and a dark island looks more like a piece of furniture. Flipping it is less common, but it is still beautiful. I wish I had pictures, but I'm a DIY project under construction! :-) I also searched for Sharon1 and all her pictures fell of the forum, which is a bummer. I couldn't find her in the FKB either - she must not have posted there. I'm sorry to not be more help visually. But hopefully I've reassured you that many of us have done the very color scheme you are considering!...See MoreMirror Backsplash - does anyone have a picture?
Comments (8)Annab - I am sorry to say this, but my old kitchen's mirrored backsplash was the first thing I couldn't wait to rip out. I hope I haven't offended you, but the purpose of this forum is to share our experiences, and perhaps help people in their kitchen decisions. I strongly disliked the mirrored backsplash because (A) it only stayed clean-looking for about 1 minute. It's called a "backsplash" because, well, things splash on it, and the mirror shows, and reflects, every drop of spatter, grease, even water drops. (B) As Khat mentioned, and I will emphasize, the backsplash just became a reflection of everyone's torsoes. So every time you or family members walked around the kitchen, you saw torsoes. And because the torsoes weren't balanced by seeing the rest of the body, any, ahem, imperfection, was magnified. For small children, you just saw floating heads. (3) No offense, but my old kitchen was circa 1991 - it was my understanding that mirrored backsplashes were a late '80's-early '90's look. I know trends come and go and we shouldn't be a slave to them, but still I need to mention that the look can be considered by some to be dated. As you can tell, I didn't like my old mirrored backsplash, to such a degree that I felt compelled to tell you why. Sorry....See MoreDoes anyone have Ultracraft cabinets that they can post pictures of?
