RdV a little close to house...still use rebar?
Comments (5)Not to answer your question directly, I don't like to have anything planted within two feet of the house. It's not good for the plant because it is in the rain shadow of the house. It's also not good for the house because of termites. If your house is stone or brick, the termite issue might not matter so much for you. Here houses are usually wood or stucco because we're in earthquake country. My own Reine des Violettes is several years in the ground, and not vigorous enough to need a trellis of any sort. I think it does not care for my soil, or perhaps my climate, but I do like this rose very much. As long as it consents to grace me with its presence, I'm happy to grow it to the best of my ability. Comments (1)When my brothers & I were young, my parents were friends with a couple named Joe & Naomi Ward. They were like family, too; Naomi taught me about ceramics when I was pretty young, & we even stayed at their house when we had the mumps! first king-sized bed I ever saw, & first electric blanket I ever encountered! The telephone company transferred Joe to Galveston (I think), so we didn't see much of them, but when Hurricane Camille hit the coast, Naomi came to stay with us, bringing her mynah bird & her poodle. Most of the phone company staff had been evacuated, & Joe had to stay to keep the telephones in operation. We lost touch with them, but I often think of them with fondness & with gratitude....See MoreOnly Miele dealer in town closed- can I still get my DW's?
Comments (18)FWIW, I would make sure you can get Miele service. I have had trouble with non-Miele service. As a matter of fact the last time I had it serviced, our local service provider (Yale) said my DW was not worth fixing and that I should get a new one -- and went so far as to recommend Bosch! I called Miele and they arranged for their own service team to come out. They assured me it was fixable -- for a price of course. The biggest problem with Miele service in our area is that it takes forever to schedule them and then if they have to come back you have to go through the whole scheduling loop again. I will say the technicians are good at walking you through simple fixes over the phone. However, if I didn't love the way my DW cleaned, I would think about another brand. Over the 8 years, I have had several repairs on a DW that was supposed to last 15 years. It is a bit frustrating. In fact, I am waiting for service to come out again for an issue -- due to vacation and their schedule it has taken a month to schedule. I could have had a local guy right away, but for me it is worth waiting. Again, I do love the way my Miele cleans -- it is the best DW in terms of cleaning that I have ever had -- but if I am honest -- economically I probably could have bought two or more DW with the amount of $$ I have spent on repairs and service calls. That being said, if I had to do it again, I probably still would by the Miele, because it really does clean well....See MoreI'm so bummed! Blue Bamboo is closing!
Comments (1)Yes! I do remember that store. Lovely oriental fabrics......I bought a grab bag of fabric, too. I better go check them out and see if I can hold myself back. Too bad someone else can't keep it going. Bummer..........See Morematthias_lang
