A mantle shelf and columns down the side in white would look great! Will the trim in the room be white too?

The green marble is actually a perfect complement to the fuchsia wall, but if you absolutely hate it, then you absolutely should change it—but I’m not sure paint is the right way to go. Speaking of paint: Would you consider painting the rest of the walls in this room fuchsia? As for the color of the mirror, I don’t think it’s bad at all. However, the two lanterns and the candle holder aren’t adding anything positive to this mantel vignette.

Interesting. Can CLASSIC ever be 'dated'? Your room is fabulous. In the early 90's we put in gas fireplace in our basement. WE sooo wanted green as you have but were not brave enough and went more of a taupe and used green in the soft accessories. Blue and green are a classic color combo. I vote with ignore the nay sayers and save yourself the bother of 'fixing' what's not broke!!

This is the perfect opportunity to bring cool grays into the color scheme. You are already on the right track with your furniture. I absolutely would incorporate it. It makes the room. A combo of warm and cool tones is so current. Let the marble be the focal for the room and with its busy pattern, let it shine, I'd stick with solid fabrics and rug. The patterned rug and pillows, although the same color range, are distracting. Love the bare white walls and wood trim, they are also current. Stick with the contemporary theme and go clean and spare two-tone for the room. In the first photo the eye already locks on that beautiful marble. I know minimal is the opposite of Victorian but with that perfect furniture and that paint job.....wow....just sayin'!
