Spring planted lilies?

I don't normally buy lilies in the spring. But when I was dahlia shopping last week, I saw a bag of Red Velvet lilies, and couldn't resist. I have 2 Red Velvet already, I'd love a cluster.
I assume they are very small bulbs. It was a closed box, so I couldn't see. I put them in my cool dark basement along with the dahlias. Most of my lilies - and I have a LOT - are not up yet. I don't want to kill an established lily to get these in.
Does it make sense to pot them up individually, so they can get started, and then plant them when I can see where there's a clear spot?
The alternative is to plant them in a bed that is at least half shade. But odds are then, that I'd never move them. My record for moving lilies is not good, since the stem so often pops up at an angle from where the bulb actually is.
Thanks!
