Help needed: Our kitchen remodel changes everything
Comments (7)Thanks to all for the responses. kimberly623: Something to think about. I liked the idea of the "L" shape creating partial separation from the Family Room but you have given me "food" for thought (a little kitchen humor). GreenDesigns and arocbuild: Great points. We are working with a very experienced contractor and a kitchen designer. We used an architect in the beginning to see if we could find a design for the existing location that met our needs. That was not useful - except to get us to this point! Plan will definitely need a structural review before we get too much further. Because the "new" kitchen area currently houses a laundry room, some of the plumbing is in place. bmorepanic: The space beside the old kitchen is currently a long powder room and a closet. I share your concerns about the pantry size. We plan to use a pocket door to gain a little space. That window may need to shrink... or go! The primary reason to move the kitchen is because everyone is always in the Family Room and I am always in the kitchen. Want to make that connection. We grill outside but don't eat out there a lot. The back of the house exits on the second floor (walk-out basement). I can sympathize with your climate. We're outside of Boston and freezing! There is a fairly large coat closet at the side entrance (that rectangle). Vacuum lives there now. Other things will probably be relegated to the laundry room, although that seems far away for things like the DustBuster. Finally, the front hallway is SOO cramped we thought we should take this opportunity to open up that wall a bit. I see your point about making a spectacle of ourselves though!...See MoreVery funny ! Comments (59)OK, here's a possibility. Go to the local sign or photocopy shop and have them print, in big, bold, plain(for stupids) writing, "There is a hidden surveillance camera" or omit the surv part if you live in an area with real, real stupids, "which is recording every move(ment)"!!!!OMG, my stomach really hurts. "So, if you belong here, stay and do your duty"(!!!!ha, nah, don't say doody, unless you think it clearly applies to your locale. "Joggers, go at home or go ahead 1/4 mile, but not here"(I'm a mom of a marathoner, but a considerate marathoner) or, "If you can't hold it, go home! This ain't your home!" Plaster these signs INSIDE and outside the porta.. OOOOH, I have a great idea. Instead of 'violaters will be prosecuted... something like, violaters will be given a free, disposable, mop, plastic gloves, strong trash bags and YOU will be responsible for cleaning up your mess. Who defines what is a 'mess'? Your co-workers. If they don't think it's a mess, then they can help you clean it up. If the consensus agrees that it IS a mess, then the consensus (colleagues) can video your clean up activities!!!!This is so much fun! Pecanpie, I spit out my champagne(cheap 9.5% low carb) while reading your post! It was downhill from there......Breathing is difficult. This is a 'save for posterity'(don't go there) thread. Time capsule worthy. Love it Bev I will breathe normally soon. Ok, I can't resist. We have a beach cottage where, (I wish I had written this line...no, I'm not a snob, but) the handymen have more tattoos(sp) than teeth....See MoreNeed help with kitchen remodel ideas and suggestions of our new layout
Comments (42)Yes but its not just the desired look. If cost is not a factor, anything is possible. But if you have not done a lot of remodeling, you may not be aware of all the associated costs with changing all this. The ceiling, the lighting, framing out the window and wall, matching and replacing the existing exterior. While maintaining the exterior design balance. Moving plumbing, gas and electrical. Your house was built for this kitchen so everything you are considering has major expense to change. You might be better off as far as function and design to bump out the back and redo the whole thing....See MoreNeed help with backsplash for Super White Quartzite countertops please
Comments (159)Kpenni so glad you started this thread! I am learning a lot myself. I am putting Super White on my island and silver grey granite (looks like soapstone) on my perimeter so will be looking for the same things as you, back splash and window treatments so thank you for starting this thread! Beth hope you will be around to help me when I need it for backsplash because you are the queen of tile!...See MoreMaria M
