Tudor roof & gutter choices

We just bought this beautiful 1930 Tudor and she needs a new roof. We’ve been advised that a ecostar synthetic slate shingle is the best option. Does anyone have experience they can share? We also have no idea how to pick the right color mix. What do you think? We won’t change the color of the house if that helps.

The gutters and flashings are all copper and patina now. They are not functioning and need replaced. Any advice on replacing with real copper again vs alternatives?

Pick a color for the roof, that is the same color as what you have now. It looks good, and it fits your house, and is a great choice, if you ever decide to change the paint.; As to the gutters. If you cant repair or reuse what you already have, then the same type would be the best choice. They are expensive though, if you go with copper, so maybe look for something that has the color of the patina on the copper.

IMO gutters the same color as the roof keep them from being an issue and just focus on the function they provide . I do not think they are decor items even on a Tudor. I love the idea of the copper roof over that front window and then maybe some copper pots for plants

Thank you both! Any specific Benjamin Moore recommendations to accomplish a warm white and earthier, sage green. For warm white, they were thinking Swiss Coffee or Atrium White. For the grey/green shutters, they like Ashley Gray, but would prefer something with just a little bit more green in it. For what it's worth, I know we can look online, but I find the colors shown on a computer screen are very misleading! ETA: For warm white, considering a lower LRV color such as Hushed Hue, French Canvas or Muskoka Trail

What is the location? If in Texas (or elsewhere in the South) a black roof will increase the amount of heat in the attic and increase the cost of air conditioning in the summer, which can be significant. To compensate for the dark roof, consider extra insulation in the attic, combined with power roof ventilation, and more vents in the soffit. It looks like the soffit is also going to need a good cleaning to get rid of that black mold or mildew before it is painted.

Honestly, I think it is all personal preference. When I had to make this decision recently, I read either match the roof color or the house color. Lots of people said to match the downspout to the house color. But I just installed bronze gutters and downspouts against white siding and I love the contrast. It helped break it up. Our shingles are a gray/brown and two accent metal roofs are bronze.

Copper would be great but it's really pricey right now, I did a parapet cap of copper this year and at ~30 feet it was $3000+. And copper will turn brown anyway in most climates long before it starts to get the verdigris green color. The gutters themselves appear to blend into the eave line of the roof, maybe change the downspouts to white so they blend in. It's neither here nor there but I think your house is more English Arts and Crafts Revival than Tudor Revival

I have a considerable amount of 100 year old copper guttering that's just fine. What's not working with yours? Can it be fixed? That's where I'd start. Look for a specialist who deal with copper. If you do decide to replace everything, make sure the scrap value of the copper is included in the quote ---it's worth a lot.

Clogs that are deep in the downspouts can be cleared with a plumber's snake and a hose.

Synthetic Slate Shingle roof is great as many synthetic slates have the highest fire-resistance rating which means they're effective against severe exposure to external fires, are not readily flammable and do not spread fire. Transportation and installation of synthetic slate shingles is easier and less expensive than other roofing materials. And I suggest you to keep the colors of gutters as same as the roof color. Current color is looking nice but if you want to alter, go for light colors such as white as they reflect heat.
