Sansevieria trifasciata Futura? (ID Needed)
Comments (14)Stush, I do see what you mean by opening a can of worms. I wouldn't have thought plants could be so... subjective. Granted, I do remember reading somewhere how two plants (exactly the same with regard to species, etc) could be placed in two different environments and end up looking different overtime, so I think I can understand where the worms come from. *phew* Thanks for looking online for me, you were able to find more than I was able to come across. After looking at 'Futura Superba' online just now, a website (not sure if it's "valid") stated that it's a hybrid between S. trifasciata 'Laurentii' and a hahnii. That would make sense to me as the leaves are wider than I'm used to seeing on a Sans 'laurentii', but not quite tall enough to be a Compacta (at least from looking online, Compacta looks taller than a hahnii). I learned something today, apparently Futura refers to "medium height" (generally?). Thanks for sparking further interest in this plant....See Moreneed suggestions for improving the neighborhood on the cheap
Comments (5)Sounds like you may need plants which will tolerate salt if this is on a major street. If this is the case it narrows your choices greatly. Spirea, grasses and daylilys would be among my choices. To be specific: Feather reed grass 'Karl Foerster' 'Goldflame spirea' and 'Happy Returns' daylily come to mind. Your ribbon grass idea is not so bad either given the conditions. These are tough plants & it sounds like you have a tough situation. Good luck!...See MoreLooking for inexpensive ideas to improve the look of this home
Comments (29)I don't find that house to be ugly. It says small town craftsman's special to me. It's certainly not cookie cutter design, which IMO is ugly. My father grew up in the house his grandfather had built: small, poor layout, but still going strong over a hundred years later. There is more character in that kind of house than in any McMansion with superficial bling. Just be aware that the price is low for a reason. Money will need to be spent on other things before you can pretty it up on the inside or out. Looks like it needs a new roof and definitely gutters, so there's a chunk of change right there. Can you afford a paint job after getting the house waterproofed? Here it is in gray, a blue door, & the awkward shrub cut back:...See MoreSuggestions for inexpensive improvements to prepare for sale?
Comments (33)the suggestion above for $2550 in improvements is really over $4000 if one includes labor with NO appliances. I would NOT renovate that kitchen. I would stage it with a couple hundred dollars. it has been shown time and time again that it is a MYTH that a renovated kitchen returns your money. REal Eastate agents say it does because $25K in renovations if done immediately prior to sale gets you on average $20k in increased price meaning increased commission for them but a net loss for you. The fact is if the kitchen is functional the great majority of people - ESPECIALLY empty nesters -- often have very different taste than you. Do not confuse "best reutun on your money" for profit. Getting $10k more in sales price for $12k in renovations is a "good return" but still a loss. REnovations LOSE money. It has been shown time and time again in every study of improvements and sales price: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/0,,408045,00.html Renovating before a sale will make Home Depot, a contractor, and the Real Estate agent richer -- and you poorer....See MoreTiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL
