Hi catkin & svs128, The tiles are Isole from Oregon Tile & Marble. Since we were going to do two of the walls all the way up, we wanted the variance of hand-molded tile. We're very pleased with the ones we got, but I think any hand-molded tile would give the same effect. There are also some faux hand-molded tiles out there these days that have similar variance and are much cheaper. We almost used one for our kitchen from a local tile store (Seattle Tile), so ask around at yours. We used epoxy grout (spectra lock?). Not sure about the exact grout color, but maybe almond? The ceiling vent cover is really a heat register cover. It came from Signature Hardware, but any register cover will work. I saw that trick in a magazine somewhere and from then on decided I couldn't do the plastic covers that come with the fans. Note that my contractor did put some beefier support up there to hold it in place (as it's a little bit heavier than the plastic ones). The floor tile came from Dal Tile (www.daltile.com). We got the outside square tiles in a preset pattern, so they were very easy for our tile guy to install. They will do any pattern you can imagine, and then repeat it and give it to you in sheets. The hexes in the middle came in full white sheets, so our tile guy pulled out some white ones by hand and put in the black ones for the flowers. The sinks came from Rejuvenation (rejuvenation.com). Unfortunately, they didn't have their sinks shown on their website when we bought ours, but they have them for sale in their Seattle store. I'm not even sure what box they came in or who the real manufacturer is, but the folks that work there are very helpful there, and I'm sure they would tell you over the phone. Glad you like it- we had a lot of fun doing it, and think we came out with something that's functional in a modern way, but has the appearance of a traditional room. Since my original post, I did buy the home, closed on the 29th, but that almost didn't happen - one of the main reasons was, tada, this bathroom! During the walkthrough the day before closing I came to find out that they had to replace the shower pan, which meant, they replaced the tiles in the shower, and with them being tiles from the 60s, not only did they not match, but as a repair, it was an AWFUL job! I was pissed and upset to say the least. I couldn't understand why the owners didn't offer me the option of a credit to do the bathroom over as I saw fit, instead of doing this on their own, it just made no sense. We finally got them to give us a credit and I'll be ripping out the entire bathroom. What they paid to have done in there was just a waste of money and almost cost them the sale of the house - and cost them more at the end with the credit given. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with this bathroom. I've taken off that gawd awful accordian door (Freecycle!) I'm looking at tiles, trying to find a 18" vanity base to free up some more floor space, probably put in bypass shower doors as I can't stand getting wet when I turn on the shower as it is now, and there's no light in the shower, so this will bring in natural light. I'm still not sure how to deal with the door. I haven't found a good door to put there. THe original door swong in, door handle on right when it was there. I'm still toying with the idea of a pocket door. I'm going to get an estimate on switching the toilet and vanity, still not sure how much of a difference it would make. Too many things and possible options. Want an elongated toilet - does anyone know who makes some really short toilets when it comes to floor space? Good source for 18" vanities? Vanity there now is 41" thinking about a 36" wide instead, will give a bit more room. So, that's my mini update on this bathroom. I've been almost 3 weeks doing non-stop cleaning. As clean as they people were/appeared, you have NO idea what I've found deep cleaning! This morning, I'm off to paint the closets in the master bathroom - they painted the bedroom, but didn't take the extra step to paint the interior of the 2 closets, so I have a tan bedroom and light green/blue closets!!!

hi there - I so feel your pain! We faced this same decision 3 years ago. We live in a neighborhood with most homes from the 1920's - many have been redone - but even if we moved and bought one of those, there would be a lot of aesthetics we would want to change. :) We too factored in all of the costs associated with selling, moving, etc.. it is an expensive process (never mind also ending up with the more expensive house) We needed a master bed and bath (tiny bedrooms and one upstairs bath does not work with 2 growing boys!), and a larger more functional kitchen. We elected to add on and remodel and every day I am thankful we did. One, we got to keep our great location and our awesome neighbors (having had not great neighbors in the past, this was important to me) and two, I got to remodel exactly how I wanted things - which meant we spent money on what was important to us, and did not spend money on what was not. (I have seen a lot of expensive kitchens in our neighborhood that I would not have wanted to pay for) We had an architect draft our plans first then we bid out the work. Times were a little tough for contractors in our area, so we got some competitive bids - we ended up with a gem of a contractor and that made the decision easy at that point. We did things to save money like staying in the house during construction, buying our own tile (from Overstock) and other little things like that. And then we splurged on what was important to us. I would do it again in a heart beat - there are so many unknowns with moving (traffic noise, unknown neighbors...) so I say if you are happy with where you are - change the house since you cannot change location. Most importantly, you will get to make the house exactly how you want it to be. love that first pic! i am doing our guest bath in very similar fashion. super dark navy vanity with brass pulls, chrome bridge faucet, brass sconces and probably chrome framed medicine cabinet. wall tile is carrara subway and floor is basketweave carrara. so i totally think you can mix metals. the only thing i've been going back and forth with a bit is possibly doing the vanity in a dark gray like bm kendall charcoal instead of the midnight navy as i think it might be better with the carrara. but i don't want the space to look too gray. anyhoo, this was my inspiration pic, and notice they mixed different tones of brass here and also used bronze:
