Will this work? PAX Ikea Walk In Closet Design

Has anyone designed a new build WIC around the dimensions of the PAX ikea system? Currently I have a 6’2” wide by 6’9.5” deep WIC in an addition we are building. I’d like to use PAX for the closet organization and want to do my homework now to know if PAX will fit well in that space or if I should modify. I don’t want to get into the newly built space and realize I am 12” short here or there, if that makes sense. Can anyone help me with a design or point me in the right direction?

Also, if I can get enough storage in a smaller width closet, I can give that space back to the Master Bedroom which would be nice.

Ok… heres what I came up with if I take back 6” in WIC width:

Closet is 81.5” long and 68” wide with opening at 68”

One side do PAX 22.75“ deep and 59” long (leaves 22.5” on end) - for double hanging

The other side do PAX 13.75” deep and 59” long (leaves 22.5”on end) - for shoes

This leaves a walkway of 31”and 22.5” on the end

So, put 29.5” wide frame on the end that is 22.75” deep for drawers/shelves and double hanging

It will cover just the ends of the last frame by .25 inches

If I understand correctly, you'll have empty corners on each side of the unit on the back wall? You have about 148" of storage.

My primary closet is almost exactly the same size as yours, but I put double hanging along the whole back wall, 50" hanging + shelves on the left, and 50" shelves/drawers on the right, for a total of 162" of storage.

These photos are in progress - I later added drawers on the right side.

I had Elfa installed in our garage, 2 boys closets, pantry, 2 master closets and an understairs utility closet. The total for all of these was not even close to 11K. Maybe 8K total for all. I did notice that Elfa has a new system that looks more like California Closets, maybe that version is the style the other poster mentioned as being 11K.

I have had Pax closets for 10years. I don't have doors on them but I have taken than apart and rebuilt them several times as I did things in the closet. I would never use a normal closet versus the Ikea Pax. California Closet is very expensive and less flexible in my opinion. I would use one of the Italian systems from Minotti but those were about half the value of my house:-) My master closet is a galley with two 6foot long sections with 24" deep by 96" tall Pax systems. They hold a ton of stuff. There are similar sized systems in the other bedrooms. I have kids that spend the summers with me and they have never damaged these systems. The drawers pull out easily and I have added some updates like the valet rods and Hafele pull down closet rod. I love the pull out shelves for my shoes. I have a small number of shoes:-) The other update I was looking at is some interior lighting for the units using LED strips. I know you decision is made but there is some misinformation about the PAX system. There are a ton of door options and even inserts from non Ikea sources. At roughly $90 for the box, it really can't be beat for value. There are some size constraints but most closets can support the Pax units. IKEA Pax for pantry?

We stacked 3 30" tall Sekiton wall cabinets (because we had a limited depth to work with) to create a pantry cabinet, with pull out drawers and shelves. We needed something 36" wide and the tall pantry cabinets didn't come that wide and we didn't want to have the pantry divided vertically if we used two cabinets side by side. The bottom 30" is two large drawers with the upper drawer having the drawer within a drawer thing. We did shelves on the rest with large doors because the depth is shallow, but could have put pull outs in there too.

IKEA PAX birch? Is it the same as the existing PAX system?

How old is what you got already? Usually Ikea makes very few changes in a system that is always sold. The best is to call Ikea As afr as I know they did not use solid birch but a birch veneer and you can see that in the last picture. As for the Komplement items they seem to be the same to me as always I just did a whole room in Pax and it was added to an old Pax system and all the addons worked fine.

Are these organization units Ikea, or something else? Can you share your exact closet measurements? particularly interested in width. If you have updated pics with the drawers, I’d love to see them!

I used Dakota Closets from Menards (a regional big box store in the Midwest). I had used them in the closets in our previous house, and loved them - they are easy to assemble, sturdy, and provide a lot of flexibility.

My closet is 71" wide; the unit along the back is 62.5" wide. The 8.5" at one end is a perfect spot for the ironing board. Mine is longer than yours, but the unit on the right side is 79" from the back wall, so pretty close.

We have a chest of drawers in the bedroom, but it was inconvenient to go to the bedroom for socks and underwear, then the closet for everything else, so I added the drawers to the closet. Now the chest of drawers is used for sweaters and winter attire (wool socks and long underwear).

For reference, this is what it looked like in the listing photos. I despise wire shelves.
