To rug or not to rug... (rug under dining room table)
Comments (14)Thanks for all the advice! I think I am on the side of getting a rug. The more time I have spent looking at the room today has made it more obvious. Thanks for the pictures Beth, super helpful! I am an extremely particular person, especially when it come to rugs haha (I spent 3 or 4 weeks constantly/obsessively searching for the one in our living room). It is nice to have a jumping off point. Let the search begin... I have a black rectangular planter coming that I was planning on placing on the table and planting some low succulents in (picture). I thought that the table needed something black on it to pull in the light fixture more effectively. I was also planning on putting large plant in the corner. I'm not sure what type of art to put on the wall under the window. The window placement is...awkward. I wonder if a live/moss planting would work? There will be more mini projects and questions that come up for this main area as we move through it. We have most of the major pieces but are missing a lot of the smaller elements to tie it all together....See MoreNeed help with layout, rug, lighting and dining table - any ideas?
Comments (44)I also like the foyer idea...only the back of the couch and a rug runner from the door behind the couch will work too...keeping the cozy couch area and fireplace as the focal point..not sure facing the dining room is what i would want to see from the couch...See MoreRug or no rug underneath dining room table?
Comments (5)when I first saw the pictures I thought you need to bring the sectional closer to the fireplace and TV.... then saw it was a step down from the dining area. kind of dangerous to do that. maybe you could find a taller bookcase or 2 to place on the lower level and serve as a sofa table, bar and buffet when needed blocking off the step down and getting more storage and flat surface. I think in this case you do need a rug to get some color in the room. make sure it is large enough so that when you pull the chairs away from it that they are still on the rug. pull your favorite colors from the painting to bring somehow into each area (kitchen, dining and living room). looks like you already have some red in the kitchen picture. it should be repeated throughout the whole area that is visible in an open concept area. the pictures are just to give you an idea how just small things in each room repeating a color help make it interesting, unified and keeps your eyes moving in the room. you have so many choices to pick from. what is your favorite? I think changing the rug in the living room would also help. 2 rugs don't need to be the same but should complement eachother....See Moreneed help finding an area rug to go under the dining room table.
Comments (16)Put your centerpiece on the chess table. Is the other ornate dining set for breakfast, gaming or could it be used here? Do you want to continue with the cow head/skin theme, leaning SW in your decor? They aren't really "cozy and elegant," IMO. Is a new chandy in the picture? That one misses the mark on elegance. You need a minimum of 36-42" from the table top to any baseboards or furniture surrounding the table to allow for chair sit/scoot space. I'd do that measurement first. I really wouldn't want the rug jammed up against the exterior wall. Maybe the smaller, round table would be a better choice for using a rug here....See Morekandrewspa
