Layout help - please help me get this right
Comments (8)lavender_lass - marble would be more of a possibility with the island/table combo. While I do love marble, I'm not sure that I would be happy with it while it developed its patina (and I can be a messy cook). DH is strongly against marble counters in the kitchen - partly because he thinks we've got enough already (fireplace surround and raised hearth, plus floor and counter in bathroom), partly because he doesn't think he'd be happy patina-wise, and partly because he'd prefer soapstone for the counter. Does soapstone come close to marble as a rolling surface for baking? But the combination of marble and then wood on the long island would be striking... I did some searching and found more discussions about extending islands and attaching them to a table and found info on houzz and here. One thing that came up was that with seating on only two sides, you lose some of the face-to-face contact that you have with people around a table. We do eat dinner in the kitchen about five nights a week, and I think I might miss having us around a table. The other concern I have, for my old house, is that the big island is quite popular right now while we're really after a fairly traditional look. Still intrigued a bit, though, so I'll mull some more. Any thoughts on the viability of the fridge location in the initial layout? Will I regret having to move around the end of the peninsula to get into the fridge?...See Moreliving room layout help!
Comments (17)'There are too many pipes in that wall .. so the tv cannot be moved there without damaging the infrastructure. " Your statement sounds like you are repeating something that someone said to you who doesn't exactly understand home systems and construction. You already have electric in that wall based on the fact there is an electrical sconce. You already have cable since your TV over the fireplace is activated. So a coaxial cable has to be fished through the wall which can easily be done by a professional if there is no one in the house up to the task. Don't complain that you cannot find a solution when one is presented to you that is viable....See Moreliving room layout help!
Comments (10)How many need to be seated for TV on a daily basis? How big is the TV (not viewing size, but physical inches wide and high?) I think a grouping of four swivel chairs (one of them can recline for Mr.) would work and the TV could go under the railing at the stair end of the room. Changing the top railing to a pony wall and pre-wiring it for the TV might be a future project worth looking into if he ever wants an even bigger TV. Here's a mini version of what you could do with that railing wall....See MoreHow to arrange living/dining in new apartment with left facing couch?
Comments (10)The photo above illustrates my first thought re: your layout. Move your living area to the centre and dining area to the window because there is an access point to your balcony there already and eating by the window will always feel lovely whether it is a bistro style set up or something more formal. consider the wall shared with the bedroom as the thoroughfare wall. It would be the perfect place for a TV if you have one or a slim storage wall (or both). The photo above, although lovely, seems to be staged for sale or as a short-term rental, not arranged for living, so you will need to make more of the opportunities for storage. Congratulations on your new home!...See Moremarmiegard_z7b
