Sorry to disagree again --Many old mirrors just had wood behind the "silvering" while other furniture makers would put a heavy paper between the back of the mirror and the wood backing. The thing to remember here is that many many of the old mirror's silvering if brittle and fragile. Be very careful when you are working on the backside of a non-protected mirror. any accidental scratches you make, and you wind up with a scratch that you can see clear thru. There is no "repair of scratches on a mirror -- that I know of. I have had to have several dresser mirrors resilvered as they were too far gone to even function as a mirror. This is usually cost-effective if it is/was a beveled mirror. I have also de-silvered some with muratic acid and then put a new thin mirror behind the beveled "ex-mirror. This will work if you are fantical about cleaning the surfaces, and you don't mind a "deeper look" on the finished product. Good luck

I tend to choose mirrors over art. I like the way they play with light in our little cottage and reflect the outside views. I can count art on one hand, but I can't the mirrors! Mustang, your wall reminds me of something we did in our daughter's room. I started with them different finishes, but I ended up painting them all the same shade of white. It bounced the light beautifully. (BTW, I love looking at pics but am scared to death when it comes to sharing. This has always been our "we'll only be here awhile" house, so I've decorated with whatever I can find for pennies instead of what I want. Read: hodgepodge!) In our living room I've actually lost track of how many different mirrors we've used for a little while then moved. That room has great morning light, and I just can't help but fill it with mirrors. Perma, well, than I would say " Safe the Planet" or " recycle Day". We are actually ckeaning the beach. A small proportion anyways. Perma, I am also sorry but gotta put positive attitude here , right ? I would go to the beach again alone if I have to. My kids used one if those words above. I buried Alfalfa hay in a deep rose holes (9) before planting but it takes all the nitrogen to break down instead of releasing so I change my methods and throw it on top instead. During the time I lived in the suburban Seattle area I had plenty of problems on my roses with the usual suspects - blackspot, powdery mildew, and rust. Rust seemed particularly vicious and needed a special spray. Oddly enough, when a smelter was up and running in the Tacoma tideflats, it put out enough acid fumes that the acid rain from it kept the fungal problems down somewhat. Then, when the environmental issues got going, the smelter closed up and got torn down. The acid rain stopped, but the fungal diseases got a big green light to get going, and they did.
