In an older house, dimmable LEDs can flicker. Just like candlelight. Well, more like the old fluorescent ceiling lights.

bpath are you sure it's the house age, not the specific dimmer? Old dimmers do not play well with new dimmable LEDs - that might be the issue.

There are actually two ”pros” over there who push blinding 4000 LEDS on threads, no matter what.

4000 and up bulbs actually make me feel sick. I have a sensitivity to certain lights.

Not that I'm recommending 4000k bulbs but I looked at that thread ilikefriday posted and if the island counter is seafoam green that OP does need new/different bulbs for sure!

I have undercounter lights that can be flipped to three (or two) different K settings. One does make my green tile look icky but I don't know or care which.

I do care about my aquarium lighting, though.

Back to lighting — DH is an electrician and I asked him about this … he said very rarely does someone want 4000 LED.

I heard the older you get, the harder it is to see. Maybe the 4K fan/s is/are.... just sayin'.

She should change the island to marble or a light color granite/quartz. New backsplash. But I'm not jumping into that convo.

yes lighting matters, but no 4,000K is not the solution for everything. they're great for the day but too cool at night, and grey out when dimmed. my eyes are not what they used to be, but I still don't need bright light at night unless I'm working on something -- that's what task lamps are for.

yep, I'm one of those nerds who feels physically uncomfortable in badly lit room. and if the bulb is flickering, even slightly? ugh, I actually feel kind of sick. I'm the kind of person who can see it even when nobody else can. it's not a good superpower to have.

!00% Seattle - a room needs layers of light for comfort and a reading lamp or task light for needle work or something is quite different than trying to light up an entire space with essentially runway landing lights!

One of the first things we did when we bought this house was to install dimmers in every room. Recessed and light fixtures. I detest recessed lighting and rarely turn it on. I am a lampoholic.

I too am a lampoholic and I'm glad to see that there is a word for it.

Do y'all get slightly dizzy and uncomfortable in some big box stores? It happens to me and it is supposedly from the lighting.

Absolutely deegw - makes my eyes jumpy. When my youngest son was little he used to complain about it long before I was personally aware.

I detest bright light of any kind. Maybe that is why I do not like shopping in large stores I especially dislike clothings stores.

Don't kill me but after googling 4000 lumens LED, I have to agree with the pros. Especially for kitchens which they're recommended for. When I cook, I need bright. Except I don't think we're fitted for 250-300 watts.

I'm sure it's both but I'm always surprised when a human is really hitting it out of the ballpark with ideas and advice and one of the pro trolls shows up and begins to dominate (with mediocre ideas) and the OP drops the human like a hot potato.
