Foundation over pour.

We have some concrete over pour at the foundation of our home next to the front porch. We initially threw some rock down but the rock washes forward and leaves the concrete exposed again. The ground slopes down to the corner of the house.

My husband has dug a trench with the intention of building a concrete block retaining wall for the rock to keep it in place. Is this the best option?

If not, I wouldn’t tell your husband after he did all that digging.

Is there going to be a planting bed there? With plants, the concrete won't be noticeable.

I think at this point, since the builder made the decision to go ahead & pour without consulting with you first on the necessary changes due to setback issues, he needs to stop what he's doing and go over what his new gameplan is with you. I'm guessing that the setback issue is on the kitchen/desk area/stair wall since the dining room would be obliterated if the problem was on that side of the house. That missing foot of space can really mess up your stair area as well as the doors that are in that space. You may have to lose one door & the space at the stairs will be very tight (unless the builder thought enough ahead & moved the porch door wall out a foot when he poured). The builder is right that 24' is the maximum width he could've made it regardless of any discussions you may have had, but that 1' changes alot of other things that DO have to be discussed. Bottom line--work has to stop until this is sorted out to your satisfaction given the setback issues you've encountered. We shouldn't guess about the structural solution without knowing the configuration of the wall. The issue is the wall's ability to resist the force of the unbalanced fill and we son't know what that is or how far the nearest perpendicular bracing wall is. The solution may be horizontal dowels (rebar drilled into wall) if the wall is laterally braced nearby or it might require a new perpendicular interior wing wall or removing the wall back to the nearest perpendicular brace. Waterproofing can be easily maintained with the original system or a better one if necessary. Ask them for a better one for free. I like cold sprayed modified asphalt with a protective drainage board over it. A sheet membrane is another option, but the project could be in a desert where waterproofing is not important. This isn't a difficult problem but it can't be solved in the abstract. Let the pros propose a solution. DO NOT let a lawyer contact anyone for any reason; there is no dispute. Even if there were a potential dispute it would be best to find a reasonable solution before raising that issue because if the work stops you have a much more serious problem.

Concrete cracks. Usually relief cuts are put in to focus the cracking down in the cuts. if you are planning on other flooring you are likely okay. As long as the cracks don’t open up you are fine. Can’t see / comment on the vertical ones which may be more problematic

Precast Foundation (Superior Walls) vs. Poured Concrete

"Service under the warranty is solely the responsibility of the licensee." and "(Licensees) provides a limited warranty on their Superior Walls products". In these situations where the buck gets passed from superior to the Licensees which then can be blamed on improper transportation, storage or faulty field workmanship and it becomes an up hill battle as the licensees hunts for scapegoats IMO. There are other causes of failure which could pass the buck back to you, such as a soil test in 15 years showing substandard soil characteristics, bad slab installation causing racking of the walls, excessive hydrostatic pressure, failed drain tile system, or anything else they can pass the blame on. In perfect conditions I'm sure the 1 3/4" concrete will hold up but what about not so perfect conditions, I wouldn't do it. Get 8" of solid poured concrete with a properly sized concrete footing, they can take the excessive hydrostatic pressure from complete saturation of the soil during a freak weak long rainstorm. These are engineered like a house of cards, one failure could be catastrophic to the entire wall system, and you see it every week with a $2 bolt causing a bridge to fall. And if the contractor is cheap and dumb enough to use crushed stone footings under these precast walls dirty stone can void the warranty, so save yourself a potential problem and don't even think about tightrope walking over a volcano. ⁯

Just put about 2 inches of gravel over the foundation that you to hold then you can plant some flowers in the dirt area

There used to be Boxwood bushes there but we had to pull them up last year. We weren’t going to replace them with anything since the nandinas were there. We initially put gravel over it but it all washed forward into the bushes and exposed the concrete again.

I should also mention that we have 3 kids who like to run back there and play tag and hide and seek so that may have contributed to the rocks not staying in place.

If you had put an edging around that foundation, your rocks would have stayed in place. I would do that now, and then replant that area, so it looks good, and put edging and mulch around them, and let the kids help, so they know how much work it takes, and then tell them, not to use that area for their hide and seek.

Do not put anything there that would prevent rain from flowing away from the house. Find a permeable edging then add pebble gravel.

I don't think that is an "overpour," it appears you have shallow frost depth and that is your footing. It looks like the footings were poured being just dug in to the soil, where the soil formed the sides rather than using formwork. If this was the case, then the grade on the side of house was lowered, and shouldn't be, because then you'd have washout from under the footing.

However, I notice the bottom course of brick looks to be 1/2 covered in concrete, so it's as if this concrete was poured after the house was built.

So, for me the pictures don't tell the whole story, but in any case, I'm not sure why you'd need a retaining wall just to hold back some landscape covering (your decorative rock). The retaining wall certainly won't hold back a foundation, and you should not raise grade up above the bricks without some waterproofing, and there should probably be drainage involved. Not sure if this is headed in the right direction for the sliding rock problem you have.
