how to stain character grade oak floors

Brittany
last year

We have wide plant character grade white oak floors. I really love how it currently looks because the variations don’t seem to stand out too much, it blends well together. I love the black streaks as we will have a black island and countertops. Going for a transitional style. But when we wet an extra plank to try to get an idea of what it would look like not stained it looked really yellow and the grains REALLY popped which I didn’t like 😳 I was envisioning having a medium brown floor but given all the grain I’m worried that this will stand out way more! We don’t want to do a super dark brown because we want something timeless. Natural (but not yellow!) or medium tone.

Any ideas on how to make sure to avoid yellow undertones? Will a medium stain make everything stand out more Vs what we have now??
