It’s not talking to me and I’m ready to chat!

Newbie here! Attached is my dining room. I’m ready to get a new dining table & chairs, but absolutely at a standstill as I don’t know how I should decorate this room. Decorating does not come easy to me and this room isn’t talking to me at all! Please help!

I’ve always liked this look , but with two little ones, I know it will be hard for me to keep the white chairs clean.

Unfortunately, I agree w/auntjen. My family has doctors in it back several generations (including one ancestor who treated people in both the Union and Confederate armies, believing that people are people no matter what), but they'd all be spinning in their graves/urns to see what's become of "medicine" and associated industries today. Big pharma doesn't feel it really has to "prove anything with science", either, as evidenced by the rampant cheating, misreporting, ignoring side effect reporting, balancing how many lives they can lose before the damages payments become overwhelming, before they have to do a recall, etc. Or maybe they feel the right to prove anything they want with 'science', is another way to look at it. Basically, as auntjen said, profit conquers all. Kind of funny to be warning against alternatives when some big pharma products have *just above* been revealed to be horrendous and decptively advertised. If I had waited for conventional medicine to address my hormonal issues adequately, I'd probably be in a mental hospital by now. Geting a friend's mom's reference to Emerita pro-gest when I was about 40 was the best medical thing to happen to me next to having cancerous moles taken off and a heart attack stopped with incredibly high levels of nitroglycerine. OH, and last month my pharmacy which has known me for about 5 years once again messed up my prescription for something I take every day, giving me a yet-cheaper generic rather than the somewhat-less-cheap generic they had been giving me before, even though I've told them every single month to order the somewhat-less-cheap one for me because the yet-cheaper one just *doesn't work*. Did I check this last month? NO, because I was harried and I guess I trusted them. I know them all by first name, one mom's daughter is on my daughter's XC team...but I was miserable for a MONTH because of human error in mainstream medicine, and because the so called generic "identical" meds, with loads of "science" stats behind them, are anything but. I don't trust any of it anymore.

Bebe, Glad you are safely home. I'll be looking forward to seeing your projects. It is to bad that you didn't get to paint with Delane Lange. I have several of her books and like her paintings. Sounds like you'll have a lot of things to paint on and it will be great to see what you come up with. So glad that most of your time was enjoyable. I'll bet it was fun to see and hear the excitement from a newbie at a place like that. I'm sure I would be overwhelmed at a conference like that and would never shut up. It's to bad that some people just have a hard time being pleasant. At our business we tell them they have to treat us with respect or we will not be helping them. It's amazing how they want to be your best friend right away. LOL I've never heard of Johnnie Lilidahl, so I'll try to check this person out. You were apparently impressed with the painting and I always love what you paint, so hopefully I'll find something on him/her. Post when you have time. Punk

I would not call her. I realize your frustration and all the kid's stories with the he said/ they said...but seriously, do you need all this neighborhood uproar? You know your son and neighborhood personally along with the other mother/s and what is best, all I can say is what I would do if this were me and in my neighborhood. I'd pick up my ss myself. Older siblings as they get into JR high and HS have 'important' kid social stuff...having to hurry and run get ss would be a drag quickly. I understand your kids are family responsiblity sensed, but let 'em but kids. Gossip with BFFs, snail pace walking and just hanging yakking over their 'social life'. Pick up the youngest As far as the 'new' kid. I'd likely invite his parents over for a BBQ to get to know them...or at the least, take a platter of goodies over, knock on the door and introduce myself ('hey, I'm so and so's mom and our sons have been hanging a bit, thought I'd just swing by and say welcome to the neighbor') hoping to get a sense of what their homelife/style is and if it jives with yours as to the kids being social or good/bad influences on each other. Stop fighting, even though so far politely, with the ladies next of the neighborhood. The 'but did you know what YOUR kid did/does' is going to just add fuel to the fires. I don't see anything good coming from calling each other at this point. Both of you are getting two stories from two different kids. Enough. Your kid does not go over there anymore and her's no longer comes to your place...if that is not reasonable, than both mommies stay out of it and let the kids work it out. Kids toss basketballs, they make noise, the hang out of windows hoping to see their friends...pretty much sounds like just being kids. Only thing I would really be concerned with is that the 'new' kid does not pass on bad ideas and habits to the current kids. What are the age differences of all the boys? Asking because say a 12 yr old may be too young to socialize with a 16 yr old...different intrests, time killing enjoyments ect and all that.

I don't know if this will help but I've got similar colors to what you're thinking. The blue color on the bathroom ceiling and the bedroom walls are the same. Guess it's s a difference in flat and egg-shell, windows and no windows, horizontal vs vertical application. Bathroom walls are BM Lenox Tan Bedroom walls are SW Rain and ICI Light Chocolate Your home is beautiful! Monica

Does the dining room open up into another room? If so. can you post photos of that room also?

Is there a patio door or just a window behind the drapes? Just a suggestion but if you turned your table and pushed it closer to the window it would leave your fireplace open. You could swag your light over. Then you could put a nice chair by the fireplace or leave it open. Vinyl chairs are relatively easy to clean.

It’s a patio door in the back. Ha! I never even thought about turning the table. I plan to get a different dining set, but absolutely love that idea!

May I ask, what app did you use to create that design? Is that with a premium Houzz version?

I didn't even know there was a premium Houzz version....

I used Microsoft Paint, which is a free app that can be downloaded on most PC's.

Art is a great way to add color.

I like your dining table and chairs. With the painted brick and the tiled hearth, you already on your way to a great space.

New drapes: hang black rod 3" higher and 3" wider than window.

If the table is in good condition, you might consider keeping it but changing the chairs. Your table would fit nicely with either of the two inspiration photos you posted.

Don’t forget to lower your chandelier and move your bin into the kitchen.

You could also centre the table in front of the fireplace and set up a little sitting area by the patio doors. Of course it all depends what the other end of the room looks like. I agree with making the drapes bigger. Do you have enough room for a small island in your kitchen?

I like both ideas. Not sure if I have enough room, unfortunately. I for sure would need to stick with the round table to cut down in taking up so much space with the table. Thank you!
