My Counter Templater Screwed Up :(
Comments (10)Oh, my plans will NOT be ruined! We intend to have several drinks at a nice local upscale Indian restaurant and ignore the house for a few hours :) As for the installation. They guy who did the templating does work for the fabricator, as does the installer. They are all one and the same. Just different people doing different parts of the jobs. BTW, it's Ceasarstone, Jerusalem Sand, which went in and the two pieces they left in look beautiful. One other thing which did bother me was we had discussed whether or not to do a 4" backsplash on it, and I nixed the idea with my KD. When I got home yesterday lo and behold, the backsplash was there. Now, I'm hoping I didn't pay for this, because I didn't ask for it. And, second, now that I see it I'm not so sure I even like it. I had it with my granite and thought it looked fine but for some reason with the Ceasarstone I'm not liking it as much (maybe because my back wall is unfinished still and it seems like it's over powering the space). Anyway, I tried taking pix just now but the lighting at 6:30 am in my kitchen isn't great, even with all my overheads on plus I didn't realize how grungy the toaster oven door was lol. So, I'll take more when I get home later on and post them in a separate thread. Sorry to hear of others woes - I sure have read enough about them here. I actually spoke to my old boss yesterday, who told me his counter never even made it off the sidewalk hahaha! He noticed right away that the sink cut-out was wrong (he's an architect) so he told them to put it right back on the truck :)...See MoreNew Granite Counter - give up?
Comments (16)"My builder thinks we should tell the subcontractor that the builder will hold back $2,000 for 6 months, and if the crack gets worse he should replace and get the balance at that point...but if it doesn't get worse by then, the installer gets the $2,000. Not sure if 6 months is a good enough time frame, but I do agree that holding back funds is probably the only way to get him to either agree to replace it or at least give me the piece of mind that I can see if it gets worse over that time period." I'd make it a year....See MoreNew house - Please help me spruce up my kitchen
Comments (18)Yes, this is a very easy fix with color on the wall. Yes to a backsplash and yes to paint. Think about painting the ceiling too. Pull the colors from the granite to design the backsplash and then go deep with the wall color to blend in the cabinets rather than have them stick out so starkly. The floor tile already looks good with the cabinetry so that's in your favor. Here is a before of my kitchen ... clearly it wasn't finished in this photo, but what I want you to notice is the paint color. The cabinets look flat even though there's color on the wall. Shortly after we moved in, I repainted to the deep rust color and suddenly the graining and the richness in the wood appeared. I'm sure your kitchen will be a real Wow! once you add some saturated color....See MoreMy kitchen in my new build ended up being 1 to 2 feet shorter
Comments (39)It was originally supposed to be 14 feet long but somewhere between the design plans and foundation it got messed up. Right now it’s 11’ 2”. I‘ll include a photo of the original house plan. I had it modified slightly to make the kitchen wider and had it flipped. The designer did make the kitchen wider but cut the length. The foundation further cut the length. I should have paid more attention to the final plan but I trusted it was done how I asked. Love and learn I guess....See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
