Comments (4)Hi Bridgette: I have mine in a 10 gallon Rubbermaid (grey) with a cover! My hubby punched some holes in the sides and in some PVC tubing (with more holes) and I have two tubes running thru the tub so the works get aerated. (send me an email addy and I'll shoot you a picture - but I have to take the picture!) Underneath, I have one of those aluminum trays that you can get for under $1.00 - those oven liners? Just as long as you don't overflow it's good to catch a few leaks. Oh, under that I have some scrap PVC so the bottom doesn't sit flat since there are holes on the bottom too. But it sounds like you might need something bigger than a 10 gallon - I'm a family of two and the worms and us humans keep up with each other in the scrap department but you probably produce a lot more veggie/kitchen scraps since you folks are vegetarians. Good luck! Nell...See Morestackable washer-dryers - do they all suck?
Comments (17)Good quality stackable washers will not be that cheap. They'll all be front load. The old small combo single units are just as expensive as the front loaders and do about half of the laundry, half as well. The FIRST thing you should do is to get a plumber in there to give you an estimate for the water and drain connections. It won't be as cheap or easy as you think. Washers are required to have a 2" standpipe these days rather than the old 1 1/2". That's all the way to the main drain, which could be prohibitive to do depending on what the home's construction is. The reason is that most modern washers eject water rather rapidly, and can overflow the smaller pipe size. Also, if you are concerned about leaks, you should build the laundry closet (Make SURE there's actually enough clearance to connect things with a person as well as the units!) as a "wet room" with a floor drain. Like a giant shower pan with the washing machine sitting it int. You'll have to keep the trap wet to keep sewer gas out as regular maintenance and it's not a cheap choice to do it that way, but it is the SURE choice for someone who is concerned about leaks. Is there no space other than the tenant's that could be turned into a communal laundry room? A basement or garage? That would alleviate your mind on the leaks, and give you more space to put in the less expensive units....See MoreMay need new dryer. Any recommendations pro or con?
Comments (5)Size (height, width and depth as the newer machines are all around bigger), gas or electric, door swing (from left or from right or downward), venting options (I recently moved my dryer -the new vent is 1'-and drying time fell by 50%), time and sensor drying, reverse tumble ...I would take the time to find out what the high, medium and low temperatures are-for awhile there manufacturers had marked the machines to show three temoeratures but really only had two....no "high" as this was their concession to conservation...some of the newer machines are cavernous and really can't dry small loads they just roll into a ball-you will only find that info from reading reviews from actual users. Unlike washers where there has been a lot of bad press re reliability for most manufacturers, dryers seem to be reliable but you need it to be reliable and to have the features you need....See Morestackable washer/dryer set
