Vintage kitchen needs updating. Small budget.
Comments (67)Ah..(sorry I'm too talkative..)..check your local Craigslist maybe too? People get rid of stuff..and sometimes of new stuff as well-when remodeling for example. The prices are generally pretty good, so you never know. Tons of fridges on our Craigslist..true, I never payed attention to their finish that much.. I know though we bought a new bisque fridge, a smaller one, and pretty modest, for my MIL rental. My DH bought it-have no idea where. Can ask him. But it doesn't look impressive or charming like your stove. It's very basic. Well the whole kitchen is super basic. It's a tiny one bedroom. The location is great though, very central, walking distance to everything, nice parks around-so 1600 per month lol. And you have to do the laundry in the laundromat....See MoreUpdate kitchen on a budget ...
Comments (42)I know you said you don't want to do a stencil. But I have to ask why? Is it because you just want one color? Or you think it is too much work? Because I just went through a bunch of pins from when I was looking for my floors and some new ones, and found a couple, simple one color stencils that would look great in your kitchen. And from experience....having done a three color floor in bedroom with a complicated stencil, and a pretty much one color kitchen floor to get me through what at the time I thought would be a year or two, the work of a stencil is not much for what it gives you in return. Some stenciled floors: If it were me I would go vintage, but I live in an old house and love vintage:-) the sky is the limit as to what you can do. I would say you have it way easier to stencil with a tile floor too. A pre-made grid. Get a stencil the same dimension as your tile, then just paint each one. Of course this is more worth it if you are thinking of maybe keeping this floor as long as you can....See More3K Budget Kitchen Update
Comments (13)I think the wall to the left of the stove was originally tiled out of necessity. Once you start cooking I imagine it will be difficult to keep clean. It might also be a fire hazard...I'd think about tiling it....See Moreupdate late 80s kitchen on budget
Comments (11)Thanks everyone for all the comments. My situation is a bit unusual because although I plan to retire and live in this 2/1 townhouse in the future, for the next few years I plan to rent it out. I wanted to update this kitchen to make it appealing on the rental market and low maintenance, but when I move in, I would like to blow out the wall and open up the kitchen, which is a more major kitchen reno that also requires removing an ugly carpeted stair and relocating the air handler and hot water tank. Given the advice, I will probably 1. paint the cabinets white, using that expensive chalk paint, 2. update the handles with chrome, 3. replace the fridge, 4. put in a light color wood laminate floor 5. replace the drop ceiling with recessed lighting (diy) 6. install under cabinet lighting from ikea 7. apply an adhesive backsplash that ties it together. I'll keep the counters for now and do that in big reno down the line in 5-7 years. any other suggestions greatly appreciated. I will add better photos when I get back there during the inspection....See MoreUser
