Are rain shower heads and body sprays worth putting in?
Comments (17)Delta Shower Systems are really great. We deal with them every day and they are really an industry leader. All Delta products have a lifetime warranty on both operation and finish so you really can't go wrong. They have a great parts replacement department to help if anything goes wrong. It's a little tricky to put together a shower system with everything needed for installation. Here's a guide we wrote we can help: https://faucetlist.com/blogs/buying-guides/shower-systems With regards to body sprays, Delta has a new style called HydraChoice Body Spray Jets. HydraChoice body sprays automatically pop-out of the wall when you turn on the water.. It is also possible to angle them as you choose once they are pop-out. Read more about these body sprays and watch a video of them in action...they are really cool! https://faucetlist.com/blogs/buying-guides/delta-shower-system-hydrachoice-body-sprays-with-video In regards to whether they are worth it, there are a few things to consider. If you are often cold when you take a shower or have a drafty bathroom then body sprays can help make sure you stay warm. They are designed to surround you with water which is very pleasant. I suppose worth it could also mean do they add value to your home. Well a shower system in the master bath have been shown to increase home value. So why not enjoy your shower while you live there and sell the house for more if you ever move! Comments (55)This is an old thread but a goodie. coxfamily, I think you'll be very happy with your choice. When the last kid moved out of my parent's house back in the early 80's, my parents sold their 2400 square foot house, and bought a 3300 square foot house on 2 acres. Then they renovated and added a master suite that added an additional 800 square feet of space. My parents spent almost 30 very happy years in that house (it was a one story), hosting lots of get togethers and Sunday night dinners with all the kids and grandkids. Holidays too. My mother loved having land and not seeing her neighbors right in front of her. My DH and I just sold our 3 BR/ 2 BATH 1901 square feet condo and are building a 2870 square feet house. The majority of the space is on the main floor, but my studio and the guest bedroom/exercise room are upstairs. I'm already in my early 60's and just in case, we're building the house with an elevator. However being slightly claustrophobic, I have no intention of using that elevator to get to my studio, unless absolutely necessary. Why are we going bigger? Well DH wanted a room of his own and we wanted a larger entertaining space that is more indoor/outdoor space. And when kids come to visit, there's enough room to spread out without being on top of one another but not so much space that its unwieldy. We don't need lots of bedrooms or even large bedrooms, but we wanted more public space. Technically we have two bedrooms, the master and the guest bedroom, but my large studio will be a third bedroom when needed and if it's ever really needed DH's study can be a fourth bedroom....See MoreCost to Gut 5x8 Bathroom?
Comments (4)I have remodeled 4 bathrooms (2 were a full gut) and working on 2 more in my own home right now. Cost is very subjective but if you have a new vanity and new, sink, toilet, etc...the cost wont be that bad. If the house is from the 80's or newer, it should be pretty simple. Tear out is a great place to save money. Its hard labor but it is easy work. I live in the DFW area and you can rent a 12yd dumpster for $250 which you should be able to junk everything in it. If you have time, you can slowly put it out in the trash. If you have any DIY skills, you can plumb your own fixtures. Sweating copper pipe is easy and there are tons of videos on youtube. Use maap gas, not propane (yellow bottle). Using a prefab pan probably wont work unless it is the exact dimensions. If it is 5', then you might have a change of a prefab pan that they sell to replace tubs. There are plenty of products out there that help you get the correct pitch on the floor slope if you cant to prefab. Mixing a mud pan is simple (cement, sand, water) until you get a damp sandy mixture. I would look into good sealing techniques (better than a 6ml liner). Something like Kerdi or hydroban. Tile...its not hard but it takes time and patience. A decent tile saw isnt cheap and renting one is probably $70/day. A good place for tile is floor and decor. We have bought lots of tile from there and they have great prices. I guess this all comes down to how much you want to do yourself. Most remodeling is not hard, just labor intensive. Im not a professional but have remodeled plenty of bathrooms and kitchens. The house the fiance and I bought, we completely gutted the house and now are starting the building phase. We do our research and have the simple mechanical skills to do the work and the drive. I refuse to pay $65/hr to an electrician to rewire my house with all the walls out. Any monkey can pull wire. A smart mokey can wire a circuit breaker box (there is only 3 wires per outlet unless its a 3 way switch, 240v outlet or something like a ceiling fan). Comments (13)Grohe has designed this unit as a "retrofit" model that would normally be mounted to an existing 1/2" shower head supply that is commonly located 6-6 to 6-8 above the finish floor putting a standard shower head face at about 6-3 +/- 1" AFF so shorter people can adjust the head which often annoys taller people. Is that the case here? If so, what is the actual height of the pipe AFF? For this shower head Grohe doesn't appear to agree that the point of a rain shower is to have the water fall over you; it offers different spray patterns with manual controls on the head. I'm curious to know why you selected a retrofit unit for a new house and why a 6" extension would not be an acceptable solution if your husband wants a higher shower head and you are either tall enough to adjust it or don't care about adjusting it. The 6" Grohe extension appears to be a perfect solution for only $60 at Amazon and free installation. In any case, the adjustable handheld shower wand is clearly not intended to be used as a full height shower head so if you want to use it for that you should put it on a separate taller mounting rod adjacent to the shower unit....See MoreJill Marches
