Kohler Greek tub as tub/shower combo
Comments (18)Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreShower head only or additional hand held in shower/tub combo
Comments (14)agree with ravencajun that there are some really nice handhelds out there that rival or even beat a basic fixed head, plus their utility for cleaning is critical to me. Another option is to place the handheld on a slide bar so you can adjust to different heights. This is especially nice for kids or folks with very different heights. Unless you have a wide tub, I would be inclined to go with a really nice handheld on a bar and the tub spout, otherwise as linelle pointed out it will get busy with so many fixtures. Plus you will need additional diverter valves and trim for extra fixtures and you may decide that money might be better spent on upgrading the shower head (or some other part of your redo) We went all out in ours, but it is a good sized shower only - but you can see what it looks like in the picture below with two fixtures on one wall. I forget the exact dimension, but it is probably at least 40" across. Here is a link that might be useful: Master redo...See MoreSlide bar in shower/tub combo
Comments (2)Initially I wanted to use something like this, the Kohler hydro rail system, use the original shower head, and add a hand shower. However, it is a little pricey considering there are relatively inexpensive slide bars that are reasonably attractive for a lot less, and it is for a kids’ bathroom that’s less than two years old. We just kept thinking he was so close to being able to reach, he’d grow into it, but he’s needing to be more independent faster than he’s growing taller. I started looking at Moen since that’s what’s in the wall, but the Moen slide bars in the lower price range are pretty terrible in appearance. They look more like utilitarian combination grab bars. There are some better ones that are a little more expensive and have cover plates, (which I think I need if I have to use a spacer in the tub surround) but if I’m back up near the price range of the Hydrorail, I like that it’s more streamline. I think I read that the Delta bracket on the actual slide bar is “universal,” which is why I wondered if it might be a good starting place to modify something to use the Moen Magnetix handheld. Delta does have some more attractive bars, though, so if I’m starting from scratch I’ll spend more time looking there. I’m still holding out hope on the Magnetix until I’m sure I can’t use it with any kind of slide bar....See MoreCombine separate shower and tub to make combination - can I DIY?
Comments (4)You don't show pics of the shower or tub plumbing wall, however I think it's possible to do if you demo the shower, being careful at the wall between shower and tub. You'll probably find the floor of the shower is thickset, so that will require some infill. You'll also probably find galvanized piping, which will need to be removed and capped. What is underneath this bathroom? Then you could install new piping and a new shower/tub valve, drilling new holes for the valve and head. There's a slim chance you can use the existing holes for the faucet handles, but you'll probably have to figure out how to patch with salvaged tile. You're not going to lose the pink without a quantum level increase in time, effort and money....See Morecatbuilder
