Do you really need the coat rack? While i dont mind it empty, I am not a fan when it is filled with coats, especially in that location.

The pretty wallpaper seems to lean on the formal side, so for me, the smaller elements should be less country in style and far fewer in number.

I agree with the above two posters. Wallpaper / chair rail seems formal & clashes with decor & I’ll add clashes with ceiling light too. How are you redoing stairs? Paint? Carpet? What’s in space at bottom of stairs & next to entry door? I would remove all wall art & replace with one larger framed art over bench, I’d also remove door wreath, pillows on bench & small rugs. I think bench would blend better if it was painted same fiinish & color as the chair rail, baseboard & front door are. Maybe add a seat / bench cushion with a fabric that goes with wall paper. That will ’glam’ up the bench & certainly lighten it up. The coat rack - is there some other option for guest coats? Even wall hooks in space by front door? Gold in color…. And, yes to a more ’formal’ and longer runner going from door to end of bench, Maybe the ceiling light works if all the eye level decor changed in style and simplified

ETA The rug - maybe not a long runner….maybe just remove the two & add one larger one at front door. Need a better pic to see the wall area to left & right of front door.
