Bedroom Layout Ideas/ Advice

Hi! I need some help with how to style my “bedroom.” The layout in my house is unique to say the least. The room where my bed is, also is where the entry door to my house is. I need help/ ideas on where and what I should put my things in this room to separate spaces. Here are some photos of the layout. Please let me know if you have any ideas, anything is appreciated because I am completely lost as to what to do!

When you say to separate spaces, is that because you will also be using this room as a living room too? Or will this be only a bedroom? I don't think your pics show enough. Can you sketch it out?

Plenty of people have studio apartments where the bed is naturally in the same room as the front door. If you look at studio apartments, you might get some inspiration. Check out https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/house-tours/studio

I would try to create a sense of entry area, perhaps with a rug, hooks for your coat and/or bag, keys. It can at least mentally give you a feeling of an entryway part of your bedroom. It doesn't mean you necessarily to block it off with walls or curtains, but just define it with a rug or other decor or lighting.

Hang a floor to ceiling curtain panel on the side of your bed at the head of the bed. LIke the pic below but just at the head, not at the foot. Instead of needing a canopy bed, you can just hang a short swing arm coming out from the wall with a panel hanging down. I stayed at an AirBnB that had this and it afforded a great feeling of privacy.

There's no other room to use as a bedroom???

Can you post a sketched floorplan, showing measurements and the locations of all doors and windows? We'll see what we can do!

Haha thanks everyone for helping make an easy decision! So sofa is centered to the wall now too, which means room for a side table and or a standing lamp. I will post updates of how the room is coming along, especially when I get my new rug :)

I would get rid of the funky little stand with the pink lamp. The lamp isn't needed, but if you love it you need to get a shorter harp so the shade will be lower. The metal lightbulb and switch area are not supposed to show so much and that shade is a tad small anyway. I would wall mount the TV so the top of the chest would be useful. Changing the bedding to pink would make the biggest difference. Drapes are too short, and you need some art.

HI. Here is what I suggest: 1) Remove the shelves. 2) Instead of centering the bed, move it more toward the back (sliding door). Leave enough space for a shelf or nightstand. This will make the room feel larger and allow for a wardrobe in the front. 3) Wardrobe on the wall towards the front of the room, where you have a wider space. 4) A narrow bench at the end of the bed would be fine.

I am interested to find a way forward with cyan, purple and yellow! What a challenge. I have teen boys too. Some boys care a lot about how their room looks, some boys don't care at all---I have both in my house, ha. First of all, you need to add to this thread a room layout. That will help. Next, with those colors, I would think in terms of a yellow comforter, cyan (bright blue, right?) colored sheets, maybe, and a little dash of purple here and there. Maybe some art or a wall hanging/tapestry (or a rug) with those colors can give you something to pull colors from. You haven't mentioned a budget?

Floor plan would help, but what kind of bed do you have? I ould suggest a a fold out sleeper, or daybed that can double as a sofa even if this is not your living area.

Sorry the pictures weren’t helpful. There is another room I could use technically but it’s much bigger than this room and it felt weird to have my bed in there because I wouldn’t know what else to put in that space with it. I don’t have a floor plan or measurements but I drew out where doors and windows are. The x is currently where I have my bed. It a queen sized bed and the headboard is against the window.

My goodness, please put your bed in the much larger room rather than in this room where you enter. It makes a ton more sense. I have a big bedroom and in it I have a desk area and a reading area. Depending on how you center your queen bed and what other furniture you have or would want to buy you can make it look full enough.

IMO that is not a floor plan post a to scale floor plan of the whole main floor of the house . This is ridiculous to have a bedroom at the entry to a house so I need to see the whole plan.

Hi Allison, it sounds like you want to make the best use of your spaces. From the viewpoint of guests & visitors, it would make more sense to have them enter into a common area (living room) rather than private space (bedroom). This way, your bedroom is your sanctuary and retreat. So, use that large room to create a place that you will love. Maybe add a big comfy reading chair, a vanity by a window, some plants and decor, pretty bedding. I can’t wait to see how your bedroom turns out!! Please post progress pictures

Question: where is your living room in this house? Still no dimensions so difficult to suggest anything constructive but perhaps the living room would be a better use of the space where the entrance door is located.

If it's too much trouble to post a floor plan of the entire house, then your "constructive advice" will be very limited.

If you are new to all of this then a to scale floor plan sounds rather intimidating. You can just draw a "stick figure" version like the one you posted originally but just include all of the rooms in your house. It is helpful if for things like a door or window you draw a little square and write in what it is. That way it helps us to figure out a bit more about what and how much can fit in your space.

Also, is it just you or do you live with other people? What furniture do you already own? What kinds of activities do you do at home and what rooms do you want to do it in?

It sounds like tyou are using the intended living room as your bedroom. I can't imagine parading guests through my bedroom. There must be another room to use as a bedroom. Usually bedrroms have a closet. Perhaps you raassess the rooms in your house.
