Show Me Your Corner Sink / Corner Window
Comments (7)That's a mid demo shot. I bought the house partly because of that corner sink. Some romantic housewife gene popped up and thought "won't it be nice to wash dishes and look at that view!" Mind you, she (the romantic housewife gene) and I, so rarely wash dishes that it was a goofy thought, but all of that light streaming into the kitchen, winter and summer, and the gorgeous view, just call to you to take a shot at dishwashing :oP In the new kitchen the sink will be in the same location, but everything else changes. We've also inset it 3 inches on each side. I can't imagine having lovely windows like that an not setting your sink there. With a view...why would you chose to look at a wall instead?...See MoreAnyone have a corner kitchen sink???
Comments (4)I did in my last kitchen and there weren't any spacers. I only have a picture that barely shows it, in an unfinished kitchen (it really did look OK when it was done!). This is not a very good picture, but you can maybe see that it was a fairly narrow sink but no spacers or filler. It wasn't standard sink but was a standard sink cabinet. The drawers to the left (and right) of the sink come very close to the sink cabinet's single door. If you have full overlay, you might need a spacer so they don't hit, but otherwise, I'm not sure why you would. (I don't know what this was supposed to be a picture of--it's a terrible picture of, well, everything!)...See MoreResurrecting kitchen project part III
Comments (53)Jillius - you are not the only one. I have my kitchen stuck in my head also! LOL I can't decide if I like the window next to the stove or not. I like the idea of looking out the window while prepping and stirring though. And I thought about putting glass cab in the corner but for some reason I could nit find it in the software I was using. laughablemoments - I love your name and your kitchen and the window looks great there. I especially like your old wood beams. I also came across this picture that seems interesting for a solution of hood and cabs over the stove. Gives some more storage without cabs blocking the view of the window. I would not necessarily put windows on both sides but while I was driving around I was trying to think of all the objections my DH will come up with. Objection 1: kitchen separate from dining, can't hang out "in the kitchen". So I though that maybe I could keep the wall open to the new DR and even put a little bit of the counter with overhang for a stool at least on one side since the other side has the fridge. I could put a wall just across the top to make more visual separation and that is what I have in all my doorways. Or I could put columns or glass cabs or something I have not thought of yet. Does that make sense? Objection 2: too big/long/expensive remodel. Since we would have to re-do the floors (our hardwood is just OK, has been sanded at least once before and the previous owner installed it over particle board! squeak, squeak - grrr) that means that we would have to pretty much redo the whole downstairs. I can check to see if we can somehow re-use the existing wood and just add more but I'm not hopeful. The only way I thought I can keep the cost lower is to get cheaper lower end cabinets - I was going to get Ultracraft. Getting regular depth 33" since that's what we have now (but maybe leave the room for 36"?) would also save about $1000 I guess. I can probably hire just a daily worker to do some demo and only hire skilled people for skilled jobs. We were planning on renovating FR anyway after the hall bath so I guess it would just have to happen sooner. Objection 3: no formal DR - I can definitely decorate it so it looks more formal but still friendly to use on daily basis as it was already suggested. I'm sure there will be more objections from my family - the kids so far just said that "it's weird", whatever that means. But they will not be home that much anymore and it is mostly my kitchen that I am just trying to make nice for my family. If only money was no object ... one can dream. :)...See MoreHelp with kitchen design.....corner sink or no??
Comments (17)"...only me and my 3 year old daughter..." So, that means you will shortly need a two-person Kitchen -- assuming you plan to teach your daughter how to cook and how to cleanup. (Necessary life skills -- plus a help for you in the future!) Very young children very quickly become old enough to help out -- and they will be doing so for many years to come! . . "...how can I post a drawing of the space?" The "New to Kitchens" thread has instructions for posting pictures - "jpg". Basically, either Draw up your layout by hand, take a picture of it, and post it here using the "Photo" button below the message text box. If the picture is not on the computer/device you're using for the Kitchens Forum, then you'll need to upload the picture to that computer/device first. or On your computer, draw up the layout (e.g., I use Microsoft PowerPoint, others us MS Paint). Save the layout in "jpg" format, and post it here using the "Photo" button. Whichever option you use, be sure to label all dimensions -- the width of each window/wall/door/doorway and the distances b/w each window/wall/door/doorway. It also helps if you post a sketch of the entire floor the Kitchen is on -- it helps us see how the Kitchen relates to the rest of the home and how traffic flows in, around, and through the Kitchen.
