There's An Elephant In The Garden Party
Comments (20)A couple of my own thoughts to add to the conversation. 1) God bless Daniel Hernandez, the 20-yr-old intern who held the Congresswoman in his lap, stopping what he could of the blood loss, and most likely saving her life in the process. Every once in a while there are people in this world who seem destined to be a turning point, a history-maker, for lack of a better way to describe this young man. A contribution so profound that it almost seems to come from a greater place than this earth. I believe Daniel Hernandez is one of those people. And I believe we have not experienced the last of the great contributions he will make to this world. 2) My friend Hallie lives in Tucson. She and her friend Jim were on their way to the Congress on Your Corner event when they heard about the shootings on the radio. I believe Hallie went home. But Jim continued to the scene. You see, Jim is a professional photographer. He thought his presence might be useful. It turns out that Jim is the one who took that famous photograph of Daniel Hernandez holding Gabby's hand as they head toward the ambulance. My point? I guess that it really is a small world, sometimes perhaps too small. I can't imagine what it's like to be that close to such horror. I can't imagine what it's like to feel compelled to record it because by a twist of fate, you're the only photographer on the scene. I wonder what the personal aftermath will be for these amazing people, and for the other innocent bystanders? Karen...See Morehosted our Daisy Garden Tea Party today!
Comments (3)Thanks! LL - We do use my regular china about twice a year (Thanksgiving and seder), but this other set has been sitting in storage for years! It's a very delicate, feminine pattern - not my usual style (and definitely not my dh's style!), but perfect for a tea party. I still need to load pics......See MoreRose Garden Party, Plant Sales, Tours, Free Events & more...
Comments (3)HIlda: I was very interested in the article on Fertilizer: Organic vs. Inorganic. He says: "Organic fertilizers are not immediately available to plants. Before the plants can use them, they must be broken down by soil microorganisms into simpler, inorganic molecules and ions." This is not a big deal if the soil in your garden is healthy with an active Soil Food Web, but I wonder about my houseplants. I doubt that the soil in the pots has much of a balanced ecosystem, particularly after a long winter of dry air and low light. I'm thinking that it's OK to pot up or topdress with a potting soil containing organic fertilizer but I should supplement with an inorganic fertilizer. All those potting soils called 'natural' and 'organic' may not be best for indoor plants. Claire, just reconsidering...See MoreA tea party! Such a special event!
Comments (33)I planned the tea party. It's The Densler House, which is a bed and breakfast and the tea room is Hearts Desire Tea Room. House was built in the mid 1800's. Present owners bought it back in 2004, along with a ghost (cute story about the ghost)....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
