There's An Elephant In The Garden Party
Comments (20)A couple of my own thoughts to add to the conversation. 1) God bless Daniel Hernandez, the 20-yr-old intern who held the Congresswoman in his lap, stopping what he could of the blood loss, and most likely saving her life in the process. Every once in a while there are people in this world who seem destined to be a turning point, a history-maker, for lack of a better way to describe this young man. A contribution so profound that it almost seems to come from a greater place than this earth. I believe Daniel Hernandez is one of those people. And I believe we have not experienced the last of the great contributions he will make to this world. 2) My friend Hallie lives in Tucson. She and her friend Jim were on their way to the Congress on Your Corner event when they heard about the shootings on the radio. I believe Hallie went home. But Jim continued to the scene. You see, Jim is a professional photographer. He thought his presence might be useful. It turns out that Jim is the one who took that famous photograph of Daniel Hernandez holding Gabby's hand as they head toward the ambulance. My point? I guess that it really is a small world, sometimes perhaps too small. I can't imagine what it's like to be that close to such horror. I can't imagine what it's like to feel compelled to record it because by a twist of fate, you're the only photographer on the scene. I wonder what the personal aftermath will be for these amazing people, and for the other innocent bystanders? Karen...See MoreWell, the garden party is over!!!

Comments (4)The Holiday Inn -- Historic District is a newly renovated property that is centrally located and reasonable. Middleton Place is the best public garden-- much better maintained than Magnolia Gardens and excellent garden tour guides. The house museum is not so great, but the food at their restaurant is excellent. Pick up a copy of Margaret Moore's Complete Charleston: A guide to the architecture, history and gardens of Charleston and the Low Country. It has great insight and walking tours plus some good advice on excellent restaurants. Charleston has some of the best eating in the nation, so pick wisely and avoid the tourist traps. Pick a day of viewing gardens when you can be South of Broad Street in the historic Old City or in Ansonborough....See MorePaying to attend a home party sales event?
Comments (41)busy, my daughter's both sold GS cookies for many years. I appreciated our neighbors buying a box or two, and even to this day I will always, always, always buy cookies etc. from a GS's or the BS's. However, this part is interesting. A neighbor's son was on the crew team. When she came to the door with him for a donation, she jokingly said, "payback time." I laughed too, except for the fact that the donation was expected to be $50! Certainly not the same thing as buying GS cookies! But, we are good neighbors. I thought it was interesting that she thought it was equal to a few $3 boxes of cookies. A boy scout came to the door selling popcorn. The catch was that they were linked to donating to veterans. (I'm married to a veteran, so of course this is close to my heart) I ordered a few things and the total was over $50!...See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
