Comments (18)Funkyart, I don't think you are being a baby or unreasonable at all over something that was so exciting to look forward to, yet such a disappointment when the color and the alterations were not what you paid for. Even when something is a 'deal' it's hard to get past it if you feel that you were not well-treated. Look at all the people online who have had a friend or relative give them a super price break on tiling, or flooring, or painting, and then the job is not as promised. A deal is only a deal when it makes you happy at the end. And when you pay full price, it's a bitter blow. Many here think your bed is gorgeous. Well, that is cold comfort when You yourself were looking for something just a little different. I know how this feels. I've had similar experiences, and they leave a bitter taste on the tongue, long after the initial disappointment. So, now you just need to dress the bed. I do think that if you get your entire room looking beautiful and feminine and amazing, you will come to terms more with the one aspect that is not exactly right. Try to think of the bed as a gift--a piece that was given to you by a dear friend.......not just what you would have chosen for yourself, but really pretty and something that will be amazing when you finish with it. And if you think you would love the distressed black/brown finish, then start pricing that now. Believe me, if you had the $$ to get the painting done, sent it out to be re-made, and got it back looking gorgeous.........you would not be still kicking over the paint finish. You would be wondering why you waited. It's just like these guys and wood cabinets. They fight women who want to paint their outdated kitchen cabinets because..... "It's real wood!!! for goodness gosh sakes!! You can't paint wood! Sacrilege!! But I have a News Flash. You CAN paint wood. And if it's Your wood cabinets, and YOU don't like them, and YOU can't make your kitchen look pretty while you stare into the depths of their woodiness, then, you most certainly CAN paint them! Really. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and fix what's broken, even if someone else doesn't get it.... Red...See MoreUpdate: Starting to Love my dining room, now what fabric, paint?
Comments (36)Beautiful job! I don't know if you have time to go back to the fabric store. If so, get the same fabric and smush it up. See how it will hang. You might only see small parts of the fabric or things you're not especially interested in seeing. Though I really love ikat (I might be in the very minority here), I think of them as more of a trendy fabric even though it's been around for thousands of years. The floral is pretty and it reminds me of the fabric in your living room on the ottomans you like. Though, it does have a modern look to it. But to me (hoping you don't super love it) it doesn't do your room justice. The monkey one is really more traditional to me and I like it a little better. And, from your posts, you run more contemporary. How about a paisley? I have a fabric that I picked out (I won't be offended if you hate it) that I finally ordered. I think it would be pretty in your room, too. I like that it's a linen, so you get more texture. And, it picks up the colors you have in your room. I guess it's an updated jacobean fabric. I thought it was just a floral. I learned it from the gurus here. :) Here are a couple more- just quickly looked on their site. I can't load up the rest. Sorry. They have a paisley that I thought would be pretty. http://www.fschumacher.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=174800 As a rule (supposedly), you're supposed to have the bottom third the second fabric. At least, that is how I was told. I prefer curtains to romans or shades. Normally, i'd put a roman or a grass shade underneath, but you'd lose the top windows due to the shade. So, I vote no on those. I wouldn't cover up the top windows at all. So, just a vote for curtains. And, I vote for figuring out which fabric you love the most and going off of the colors in there. :) You won't be happy if it's not right! Good luck! Comments (17)Thanks everyone. I actually can't believe I hadn't thought of using that rug in there before. bmallon - I wasn't sure if the sideboard was too fru-fru with the flowers and all. I have some ideas, so I run them by you all when I get the chance. I'm feeling pretty good about the chair pads too. It's funny, but with the old oriental rug, they seemed off to me - but with this one, they really do work! I'm thrilled....See MoreDownsized in real life. Update on my 1939 living room.
Comments (110)This house was 1700sf, but I want to "age in place" so I added a first-floor master suite, laundry and a new kitchen. The stairs are narrow, without a handrail, so I didn't want to use the upstairs master (it's now my studio)! The person before me lived here 30 years and had one of those lift chairs until she finally had to go into assisted living. The old kitchen didn't have original cabinets and there was only 1.5 feet (really) on two sides of the island, the cabinets were only 1 foot deep and the 1980s fridge couldn't be removed without removing the island (width of the sink and dw only). The rooms are on a 12' wide scale. So, my new master and kitchen are 12'x12'. My previous home that my husband and I built was over 4000 sf on 4.5 acres. I was an avid gardener (and blogger). I don't have the gardening/blogging in me anymore. I have 1/2 acre here....See Morenicole___
